Anyone still playing ping G30 irons?

I am guessing you could buy a used set of G25, G30 or G irons and try them and if you don't like them sell them on EBAY after a few weeks. Chances are you would be out very little money and get a real world feel for how they work for you. If you are carefull and monitor EBAY for "a good deal" you might even be able to break even or turn a small profit. There is nothing like living with a set for a few rounds to get a real feel for how they perform. For me, hitting them at a driving range or a simulator just isn't close to being the same to playing with them for a few rounds.

If I were the OP, I'd be most interesting in trying or buying G25. Before the latest loft and shaft-length jack. Loft jacking doesn't really concern me but shaft length jacking is no good for me. I'm standard length and red dot. I could play black dot no problemo but longer shafts with yellow dot being the new standard means my used buying choices are narrowed down considerably when it comes to latter Ping. Here in TDot, Pings are a coveted brand and it's hard to find a good used set of G25 irons for less than 400 but you'd have to plonk down near 800 for a set of used G's, especially if you're picky about your dot colour, and yes I am too lazy to drive to Oakville to get the dots changed. I love golf but I only love driving when I'm on the way to a course. Anyway, it seems a little bit nutty but that's the good and the bad thing about Pings. I have the impression that the older ones are at least as equally impressive and worthwhile as the brand new ones, so why not get the best of what they have now in a slightly shorter and weaker lofted package? I'm sorry that this turned into a silly rant about distance jacking but I'm tired and upset that I'm not golfing as often as I should be. Keep your wheels on the landing strip. Dog out.

I was at the course the other day warming up for my Thursday match. There's a guy on the practice green chipping 30ft shots to within 3 ft. Guy does this at several holes holes then gathers the bucket of balls and goes to a different area and repeats. I finally stop him and ask his hc because the guy has some game being in his 40's. He's a scratch player sometimes a one and is getting ready for the state am coming up. We talk for a while and I ask to pick his bag apart. I said it's not often I see someone who can play to par with rifle flighted G30 ping irons. He says he's close with the local shop owner and tried every shaft and head combo possible. When the smoke cleared he couldn't find anything the played like the G30's. He honestly wanted players clubs but these just flat out worked.

I like another poster go back and forth between iE1 and G30's (also keep i5's in FL). Tried the G's and I unlike many other prefer the classic G30 look of dark tumbled steel vs shiny w the hosel. Additionally I find the G30's as easy to hit as the G's and pretty much just as long, but with WAY better feel (the G's have a cup face of sorts, and feel much "clickier" to me). Lastly, I do think that the 30's were a "step-up" from the 25's esp in distance (8 iron is now clearly my 150 club). I just got a back up set for $449 5-p cfs - s......my original set has px 5.5 softstepped 1x....

I just got a set of G30s #5 - U in stiff flex graphite, and think they're great. I've tried every G model back to G2's and on to the G410s, as well as i20s thru i200s and keep going back to the G30s. I like the sound, the performance, the look and the color. It seems like they will last a long time.

So far, I've been able to hit them high, low, fade & draw. The head shapes are not distracting at all.

The graphite shaft feels good and the torque is not excessive.

YMMV.

What didn't you like about the G410s? A lot of guys that played the G25s for years finally switched to the G410s.

The G25s seem more popular than the G30s, probably because the G25 was a bigger change from the prior version. But I think the G30s have better loft gaps in the mid-irons and everything else is pretty much the same.

The sound of the G410s didn't fit my ear.

Also, I seemed to get a few jumpers, which made it hard to predict my distance.

The G30s seem more predictable for me and I think the gapping is an improvement over the G25s - I can get away with only carrying 7 irons (5-U) instead of 8 (4-U).

I do like the G25s - the head shape, shaft lengths, forgiveness, performance.

My brother is playing them for a second season, and doing quite well with them.

When the G30 model went out of production, an established golf shop in Columbia, MO bought up more than 100 new, unhit sets. The shop fitted him into a 4-PW set with a CFS R-flex shaft and oversized grips.

What's In The Bag (As of June 2024, post-MAX change + new putter)

Post-Injury Long Clubs > Cle XL2 Draw Driver 12° w/ Aldila Accent 40 R-flex shaft // Big Bertha B21 5W w/RCH 45 Lite shaft

(Former Long Clubs -> Driver: Tour Edge EXS 10.5° (base loft); weights neutral   ||  FWs:  Calla Rogue 4W + 7W)

Hybrid:  Calla Big Bertha OS 4H at 22°  ||  Irons:  Calla Mavrik MAX 5i-PW

Wedges*:  Calla MD3: 48°... MD4: 54°, 58° ||  PutterΨ: SeeMore FGP + SuperStroke 1.0PT, 33" shaft

Ball: 1. Srixon Q-Star Tour   ||  Bag: Sub70 14-Way Stand Bag (royal blue) /

Backup: Sun Mountain Three 5 stand bag

    * MD4 54°/10 S-Grind replaced MD3 54°/12 W-Grind.

     Ψ  Backups:

  • Ping Sigma G Tyne (face-balanced) + Evnroll Gravity Grip |
  • Slotline Inertial SL-583F w/ SuperStroke 2.MidSlim (50 gr. weight removed) |

I'm on my second set of G30's. I went from G15's to G25's a few years ago (right after the 30's came out). For some reason couldn't get along with the 25's (even though they're well liked on here), so traded in for 30's with CFS R and all was good. After the G's came out, I hit a buddy's didn't care for the looks or see any real gains over the 30's. BUT, when the 400's came out I had to have something new and shiny so traded the 30's for 400's with AWT R. Even though I was fit for the 400's for some reason I was inconsistent. I traded the 400's and went back to 30's.

Currently play ping i20's, but was thinking of going to the G series for a little more help. like the g30 over the g, plus a little cheaper. Thoughts on how you are still liking the G30's. Thanks

Recently upgraded from g2 whitedot to my correct fit g30 black dots and I’ve noticed my shots finding more greens. The g30 feels like shoots are smooth and creamy opposed to g2 cracking. More forgiving on toe and hoe mis shots

I still game them. I actually sent mine to PING this off-season to be refinished so it’s like getting new clubs.  I love them still. I tried out about 10-15 irons the last few years before deciding to refinish. Nothing has been able to beat them. Tried them head to head against new clubs of many different brands and none of the new clubs offered a better overall performance. I tried the new PINGS and hated the feel of the G and G400. The 410-425 are getting too small. Played the G 700-710’s and they are nice but nothing to make me switch. G30’s are great sticks in my opinion.
