Best stay-n-plays for the Masters or vacation spots near it

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Need some advice as I'm at a crossroads. I've won 2 Masters tickets for Saturday and having that I've never been before, I'm at a loss with where to stay. I'm also in the midst of trying to convince my wife not to go (she was very excited when I told her... not exactly the reaction I was looking for) and I don't think she's going to budge. So here's my thinking as I think I can kill 2 birds with 1 stone - I'd like to find a place (she's always wanted to go to Savannah) where we could take another couple and she could stay with my buddies wife and he and I would drive to Augusta. Naturally we'd like to play a little bit of golf while we're there as well, so my questions are - where would you guys suggest that is somewhat "vacation-y" that the wives would be happy, but also a good place for golf? The 4 hour drive from Savannah to Augusta doesn't bother me as it'll only be for 1 day (mind you a very loooooong day).

Are there any cities/stay-n-plays/hotels, etc. that you guys could recommend?

Thanks!

Must play close by is the Palmetto golf club. Open the course once a week for the public during masters week. I would stay probably in aiken/ columbia and then drive over to Augusta.

This. They call it little Augusta. Bobby Jones had to ask Palmetto to stop letting AN members play there in the very early years. That has obviously changed. Great course!

But to answer your question, Aiken and Columbia are no where near as fun for wives to hang out. Columbia is ok but I would think they would have way more fun in savannah. The only issue with savannah is it's probably close 3 hours I believe from Augusta.

I would do savannah :)

Forever Changing at this point.......

I got Monday tickets in 2016 - my wife and I flew down and stayed in Savannah from Weds - Sun the week before Masters and then drove to Augusta on Sunday evening. Which, by the way, is around 2.5 hours from the historic district in Savannah to the hotel we stayed at just west of the course.

Sorry to go off on that tangent - Savannah is amazing, and the ladies will have plenty to do there! There's a lot of shopping and boutiques, so they may put a hurting on your wallet though!

We had so much fun, we're doing it again this year. A friend got 4 tickets for Tuesday and because I gave him first offer two years ago, he is letting me take 2 of his 4 this year. This time around Masters Tuesday is our first day, and then we'll drive to Savannah and spend 4-5 days there. We really fell in love with the city last time we were there and can't wait to be there with 2 more couples this time around. I'm in the process of looking at what non-private courses are available in the Savannah area and if they jack up prices during Masters week as well. I'd like to golf, but there's so much we like to do around there that it won't bother me too much if I don't get to.

Aiken is a very neat little town, but your wife will have exhausted the things to do by lunch the first day. Columbia is a bigger "city," but not exactly a tourist destination. If the Ritz at Lake Oconee is full, I would look at either Savannah or Charleston. Charleston won't be a much further drive than Savannah. Both will be hits with the wives.

Awesome to hear, thanks! I figured the women would love Savannah and my wife has never been so that should be fun. Now I just need to set the whole thing up and plan it out. Thanks again.
