I'd have a similar swing speed, maybe a touch less, and I just reshafted by AP2s with Nippon Modus 105s. I got to hit them yesterday and they performed nicely and feel really smooth. I had the stock DG s300 AMTs in the irons previously which were just too heavy/stout feeling for me. I thought about going to the steelfiber 95s but price difference and the feel of the Nippons won me over.

There isn't any logic to be fitted (assuming correctly) into one shaft, then deciding to randomly select a completely different shaft from another manufacturer.

Nippon don't offer anything with a Steelfiber profile at ~95 grams. The nearest fit for profile is the Modus 120, if you can handle the extra weight, you could counter your low launch by weakening the lofts by 2 degrees.

Please test them before buying.

From the reading I have done here, the 105-125 have a similar profile that works better for a wide variety of players, where as the 120/130 have more distinct profiles that work better for more early/late release players. 130 is also higher launch than the others.

I have only played the 125, so take it with a grain of salt. There is a great thread on here all about Nippon shafts.

But based on weight the Nippon 980Gh, 950Gh, 950 GH HT, 950 Gh Wt and V90 would be at all around the 95gm weight, with some of these shafts having a higher balance point could give a higher launch with some of these models having a SR flex could be useful if ur not fully a stiff speed but faster than R.

Fitted into Steelfiber i95 regular this week. Not sold on Steelfiber and will go with a Nippon shaft.

Suggestions on which Nippon shaft to consider with Srixon 545's. Low ball hitter tilted towards smooth swing. 7 iron 145 to 150 yards. 8 hdcp

Thanks

Huh! Nippon are a stock shaft for 545/65, 745/65!

But to answer your question perhaps the 980GH or 950gh the 950 having the option of either a R, SR or S flex.

I just was fit into a set of Mizunos with Modus 3 105's. I'll be honest, I wasn't crazy about the thought of making a drastic transition from a low launching and spinning 120 gram C-Taper which is what I was last fit into a mid to high launching and spinning Modus 3 105X. My initial fitting where the Modus 3 105 X was settled in on was on my home club's turf range at a demo day with a Mizuno rep and my club's head pro. I wasn't told what shaft I was using until after I had hit five shots with it. We went off of the ball flight we were seeing; no launch monitor data and no shaft optimizer. More of an old school, pre-tech fitting relying largely on my feel and the flight we were seeing.

We started with the DG S300 AMT. I took 5 swings and I couldn't hit the ball to save my life. Contact was inconsistent and dispersion was worse. We tried five swings with a PX 5.5 and while better for contact and dispersion (i.e. limiting it to a one sided miss), I was missing to the left. Badly. Tried five swings with the Modus 3 105 X and it just worked. Rep had me set the club down and wait for a few minutes and then take five more swings. Same result. Almost like I COULDN'T miss with that setup. We did the stop for about three or four minutes and then hit a single shot about five times to try to simulate playing. Same result each time. I would pick up the club and it just worked. At this point the rep told me what I was swinging. and then we moved to a fit for lie angle. Got that sorted, moved on to wedges for gapping, filled out a spec sheet and I was on my way.

All that said, I was still uncertain of the results. I was so uncertain in fact that I did a dry re-fit with the Mizuno shaft doodad and a launch monitor bay using only the recommended shafts. Comparing GC2 dry numbers to what I was seeing at my actual live range, numbers free fitting, the Modus 3 105X had more consistent distance and dispersion than what I was seeing from the recommended KBS Tour S, DG S300 AMT, or PX LZ 6.5. Moral of the story, I ordered the irons and wedges that I was fit into at my live range fitting.

Bottom line, if you're fit into something by a competent fitter, there's a reason you were fit into it. Go with that setup and back burner it. I finally back burnered my apprehension of my specs and just played one of the best rounds of my year from a ball striking standpoint. I'm still working out what my new yardages are since they're definitely a bit longer than my last set, but I should have that sorted in short order as well. Stick with what you were fitted for.

Recently went from TI X100 Soft step to a nippon 105 stiff in a set of 714 ap2 heads. Ball flight is mid trajectory for me. Lower than my previous iron shafts(KBS 120 tour & TI X100 soft step).

So this nippon 105 s works perfectly for me since I'm a high hitter. It's exactly what i was looking for and it's easier to swing due to the lighter weight of the shaft. Definitely smooth feel. I can go hard at the shafts with no problem.

Been playing for 2-3 weeks now and pretty happy so far.

Hahaha. I'm dying. So I went and got professionally fit....and I've decided to completely ignore my fitting results. LOL. Awesome. Oh man the insanity of this site just kills me!!

Thats the irony of golf! I know one older wise fitter who ultimately has said play with what you feel comfortable with!

I have a mate mid handicapper playing with oversize GI irons, always struggled for years , he just never gel with the clubs and tried a few different brands.

He would always talk about when he started playing golf at school irons were smaller, blade like back in the day (1980s). In jest I said well get some blades then if that makes you feel more comfortable. So he did and his swing speed dropped a little but his chunks, thin shots have dropped significantly and he enjoys the game more.

By the stats and numbers etc he shouldn't play blades, but playing with more difficult clubs he plays better and enjoys the game more. Thus the irony of golf!

I was fitted for JPX Tours and the Modus 105X was at the very bottom of the list for shaft recommendations. KBS Tour, C Taper, and X100 were at the top. After hitting each I decided on the KBS Tour. I preferred the look and slightly lower launch of the C Taper but I hated the way they felt. KBS Tours felt the best and had a nice ball flight.

I also tried the Modus 105X and hit nothing but moon balls. The shaft felt really smooth but I couldn't keep the ball down.
