Shoes that keep you at the same height

I had listened to a podcast with Keegan Bradley in it and he briefly brought up shoes. He said that he was surprised how many pro's switch shoes as he has literally measured his to make sure they keep him at the same height. I thought this was a bit over analyzing a bit but I started to think what shoes I shot my best rounds in?

 

All of my best rounds have come in the TW15 shoe. IMO a near perfect shoe and you seem to feel your feet mold to the grass in these.

 

I also have Adidas 360 Boosts. I love this shoe as well but drastically different fit.

 

Does anyone that really enjoyed the TW15's know of similar style in another shoe that's not NIKE that keeps you at about the same height and such?

 

Does anyone else notice a difference when going from shoe to shoe?

I mean, I guess... golf is a precision game, but I think this falls more in the mental/over analyzing category.

 

I used to wear only Adidas footwear, but that was primarily for the fit. This year, I'm gaming UA Speiths and Puma Ignite Spikeless Sport and haven't noticed any drastic changes in my ball striking - even when switching between brands and spiked/spikeless the following round.

 

Watch this.. now that you've planted this seed in my mind, I'm going to start skulling and chunking all my irons!

I alway wondered about that when the whole barefoot / zero drop shoes craze happened, everyone was moving their heels a half inch lower. I'll never have a consistent enough swing for it to make a difference, but I could see where someone VERY mechanics-focused could feel the difference ... at least on a driving range without surface variations.

It's really not that big a deal unless you go from something like a True to an Adidas Boost. KB should really be looking elsewhere in his game rather than being concerned about his shoes.

I never understood why someone would want to stand on a permanent slope once I adapted to zero drop shoes. Unfortunately the options are pretty limited right now.

Well, one reason might be that in most sports, you want an athletic stance with flexed knees. Having a ramp allows you to maintain that position with less stress on the achilles. I think most every sport footwear has a ramp other than track sprinting spikes where the runner's heel never touches.

 

I get that if you wear flat shoes or walk barefoot enough, you can extend your achilles. But the ramp still make a flex kneed position a bit more natural.

Interesting in concept, but I would submit that keeping a flat profile on your shoes is more natural than a ramp angle.

 

Most athletic shoes are in the 8-12 mm drop range, or somewhere between 1/3 and 1/2 inch height difference between your heel and toe. That is over a distance of 10-12 inches. If that were your house and you had a bedroom that was 10'x10', one side of the floor would be 4 to 6 inches higher than the other side.

 

I like to vary my drop in all my shoes, but try to keep it between 0 and 4mm. Once I get to the 8mm+ range, I start to notice it in my back.

 

Of course, YMMV.

No doubt, it's a more natural biological gait. The thing is, shoes were never meant to be natural. They were designed from the get-go to give an advantage, whether simply protection from sharp objects, increased traction, or a biomechanical edge.

 

The higher ramp angle really just came forth just in the last 40 years or so - just compare Chucks to a modern shoe.That coincides with the time when companies started putting serious research into biomechanics. Ramp angle isn't just some gimmick, it's an evolutionary step. It'll probably tilt a bit more and less now and then, but I am pretty sure it's here to stay.

 

Yes, you have the more "natural" stance with flat shoes, but why take away an advantage? You could get rid of grippy soles, too, they're not very natural.

FJ Freestyles are pretty low to the ground and super comfy

I have noticed a difference in ball striking if I change from low Ecco's to a FJ with the rubber cleats. It doesn't take much to throw off your tempo.

I have several pairs of shoes, different brands, both spiked and spike-less. I don't think my swing is consistent enough for me to notice a difference.

The biggest difference for me is spikeless vs spikes. Maybe it's bc all my shoes are the same make Lunar Control 4s. Keegan Bradley is a headcase. Don't change what you do for something her does

I've had the same. I wore m projects a lot, still do, and in anything overly cushioned I feel like I've got to lean over extra just to address the ball. Can't do it.

Footjoy M projects seem to be lowest profile I have ever found. The ones I like with the X pattern are discontinued now. I bought a bunch so I have but I'm going to struggle when they are all worn out.
