Blackthorn Golf Club - South Bend Indiana

Gents,

 

Had the pleasure of playing Blackthorn today for the 2nd time in my life and let me first start out by saying this course is outstanding. Its a great test of golf but it is an extremely fair course with plenty of opportunities to score. I love the wide variety of holes as they have some really long par 4's but alot of short par 4's as well which give you plenty of options. This course makes you use every bag in your club and the par 3's are outstanding as most of them are elevated tee shots. The par 5's are great as well with one that can be easily reached in two and the others playing longer.

 

The course conditions were outstanding and the greens rolled so pure. The staff was great and the pace of play was very solid for a Saturday morning round. All in all I like this course better than Warren Golf Club in South Bend and Warren is a great course.

 

The finishing hole is a par 5 and is one of the best finishing holes I have ever played.

 

All in all if you have never played Blackthorn its a must play and a course you will not forget.

Wholeheartedly agree with you! Never heard a lot of talk about it but it is a really good course and fantastic value as well

I very much agree. A 36 hole day with the Warren course is one of the better days in golf. I would put that right up there with 36 at Purdue and both courses at French Lick. All would be great and all are in Indiana!

My college buddy used to work there and I came down from Ferris with him to play....I don't remember much besides the airport next door and i remember thinking the course was pretty darn solid....I would love to go back and play it again though.

Playing here tomorrow, very excited. I think I've played just once before and that was 10 years ago. I'll try to follow up on condition.

I played Blackthorn yesterday and I was thoroughly impressed. The condition was excellent, especially for $71. More comparable to courses charging twice that. In fact, the greens were the highest quality (speed and roll) I've played all summer, which includes Point 'o Woods (early in the season), Harbor Shores, and Lost Dunes. I shot my season best (81) and I could have picked up a couple strokes had I been more familiar with some of the shots/layouts...quite a few blind tee shots and elevated greens.

 

It's also pretty convenient being right off the highway. I'll definitely make it a regular stop from now on.
