AD-DI vs AD-MJ

I have an opportunity to pick up a fairway wood with the Tour AD-DI 7S pretty cheap. I have no idea what i'm trying to accomplish, pretty much just always wanted to try the legendary Tour AD-DI.

 

My only experience with the Tour AD line is in the MJ, in 6S. Played it in both driver and fairway wood. I'm not a big hitter and I found the MJ 6S to be a little stiff for my liking. Pretty smooth and playable, but I felt I need a bit more kick. I tend to be stuck in between S and R for most shafts, and have had good luck going with S in shafts that play a tick soft to flex.

 

How do you guys think the DI 7S would compare? From my research, it seems like the DI may play a bit softer to flex than the MJ, so that would be good, but going up to the 70 gram weight may negate that effect.

I've played or at least hit almost every Graphite Design shaft (excluding AD GT and 9003's)

 

Every one of them besides the AD GP seems to play soft to flex. I swing 114-116 w/ driver and X is usually maxed out at that speed.

 

AD DI you can very clearly feel the different sections (as far as stiffness, softness, kick point, etc.) AD MJ feels a lot more "one piece" if that makes sense at all.

 

So the feeling of loading it is much more apparent w/ AD DI.

 

AD DI will have a very active feeling tip, and launch slightly higher than MJ.

 

In a fairway wood, generally speaking, a little heavier isn't a bad thing. I like to play fairway wood 10-12gr heavier than driver.

 

I'd think if you got on fine w/ AD MJ 6S in a driver you'd have little problems w/ an AD DI 7S fairway shaft. Just make sure whoever built it only tipped it 1/2" (Graphite Design build specs for fairway woods) and butt trimmed from there.
