Phils New putter for the Open?

Watching the match going on with Phil/Rahm and Speith/Thomas and looks like Phil has a black putter in the bag.. maybe even a blade again ?? wondering if anyone who is there or has a bigger TV than im watching on ( wouldnt take much) can tell ?

No putter change (edit: maybe he is? he was testing a new putter this week - see link from GolfWRX below), but he did pull out the driver, add a 3+ fwy, a driving iron, and a 64 degree wedge this week

You may actually have been on to something. It looks like he was using 2 different putters earlier on the practice green.

I will never question what Phil does.

 

Technically he's using the Phrankenwood from what I read. So its like a little 12* driver basically right? I can't remember the specifics but I know he's played it in majors before.

Yeah I've seen Phil play the essentially 2 wood before, but I would bet that even if he pulls the driver, it'll be back in the bag on Sunday if he's in any sort of contention. I'm with you guys, though - no way I am questioning Phil. He is one of the most incredible golf minds of all time.

Digging through Getty Images, Phil did have an Epic driver in yesterday's practice round...as well as his trusty xHot Frankenwood. I am curious as to the putter model though. It looks like a #9 head (possibly the old Tour Black series) but would be amusing to find out that it's an unmarked JAT or something more exotic.

sounds like the course doesn't need a lot of drivers to get around. The fairways are flat but small and being closer to the green doesn't necessarily mean a shorter club in your hand when your landing ares can be 40 yards off the pin.
