Mixed Martial Golfers?

Anyone else on here a practising martial artist? How do you find it complements (or detracts from) your Golf?

I've trained Muay Thai for about a year, but switched over to Brazilian Jin Jitsu about 3 months ago.

For me, I've added about a club in yardage, but seem to constantly have niggling injuries. I'd love to say it's helped my calmness and focus, but I think I'd be lying....

kickboxing and boxing while i was younger. now in my 40s i focus on fitness routines in the gym and golf.

I've been in martial arts of some form or another since I was four, I'll be 32 at the end of August. Martial arts gave me a big advantage when I was learning golf because 1) I had better flexibility; 2) I was able to more quickly grasp the concept of lower body rotation without swaying; and 3) hand speed was pretty well developed to help me square the club face to the ball. In recent years I've been practicing martial arts less because of time constraints and other hobbies, golf among them.

I've been taking karate for almost a year. I've lost 15 pounds and gained a lot of strength and flexibility. When my timing is good I've picked up a club in distance. Endurance and focus have improved as well.

Good for the mind, and for the flexibility.

Not really a downside unless you compete a lot. The impacts can break important pieces required for the swingage.

Yep. I had the crap kicked out of me in my first sparring class. Bruised ribs caused me to miss almost two months of golf.

Yep. I had the crap kicked out of me in my first sparring class. Bruised ribs caused me to miss almost two months of golf.

Yep yep. I took about 15 kicks to the outside of my left leg one day and for the next week walked with a limp.

Golf was bad. Lots of bad pivots and not much weight on the left side that week lol.
