I mean a lot of people love Mickelson but you don't see a bunch of guys walking the grounds in KPMG visors and fat suits.

There's "fan of" then there's full weirdo. Only tiger has an entourage of full weirdo.

Not counting you in that group.( allegedly)

My vote for post of the week.

Edit: this is still cracking me up....

Spieth doesn't get me excited at all. Tiger did, and I am not or never was a tiger this tiger that person like it seems a lot of posters are. Don't know what it is, just couldn't care less watching Spieth play, and his interviews are boring to me.

Have you even seen an interview with Tiger? You can't possibly be saying that his interviews were better than Jordan's. They are not in the same league. Check that, same universe.

Actually, I wouldn't really call someone asking questions to someone who never gives an honest answer an interview.

TW interviews could be boring *but*, his eyes would light up if he was actually asked about 2 things he loves

Golf shots and golf courses/holes

If the person asking was smart enough to ask him specific questions about strategy/shots/holes, he would give some great explanations of what he was thinking or trying to do or how he sees a particular course or hole.

One thing I would love to see. Tiger having a segment on Feherty. I think David could get him to open up.

Won't ever happen though.

Tiger should go in to politics, he is the king of giving answers without giving an answer.

He moves my needle quite a bit. Got it all the way to 60MPH heading down the highway to make my tee time. Played 27 holes but did manage to catch him sitting in a bunker with the trophy when I came back into the clubhouse to grab a bite. I was like "Oh ya, the British Open...Good for Jordan.....Steve, what are you having? :-)

When Tiger stepped on the #1 box everyone knew they were playing for 2nd. Jordan does not have that. Dustin does not have that. Spieth has 3 cuts this year. Tiger rarely even sniffed a missed cut for about 2 decades....

He moves the golf popularity needle some but not like Tiger. Tiger was across races and his background was more of a working class type. I would love to see Jordan become the next Jack Nicklaus but Tiger was Palmer and that reaches more fans outside golf.

The bottom is that there won't be any Tiger's. Tiger can't even be Tiger again in the sense of dominance even if he were 100%. Tiger's edge, besides mental toughness, was that he was the first pro golfer that took fitness to crazy unseen levels. Now virtually all of them are super athletes.

Player was big into fitness 50 years ago ...

And don't get athlete confused with being in shape. Big difference. Don't think all PGA pros are "super athletes." The majority do take their fitness more seriously.

Tiger was a maniac with his workouts ... and he has the messed up body to prove it.

Ha! Happy Friday, Kymar. Always liked the av ; )

From 2014, seems like days long gone by, but there was a time,,,,

Tailing Tiger at Augusta

As fast as the fairway crosswalk ropes open and close, word has spread over club grounds: "He's on the driving range!" The number of spectators in the practice area triples. Children are ushered to the rope, shorter spouses step in front of taller ones, roast-beef-faced old men squint, and bachelors with full beers flex onto their tiptoes. The merchandise center actually structures its restocking and employee-break schedules around Tiger. "When Tiger's on the course, it's dead, but when he makes the turn or leaves for the day, it gets real busy," says one employee who has worked at the merchandise center for more than a decade.

As the gallery compresses and bodies jostle, much muttering begins. Each comment is anonymous, because to scan for the source is to risk toppling over.

"There he is."

"Man, is he ripped."

"He didn't even look at my kid."

"What's the big deal? Not like he's going to turn water into wine."

The last only underscores what this really is: a communal religious experience.
There he is.

The problem of course is my avatar is my own. and I chose it myself. As opposed to grown men in full "adoration garb" . I mean what a lack of self respect to walk around in public in a prepubescent sleep wear.

TEAM TIGER mentality. As though they are involved on some personal level.. Like Shooters henchmen in Happy Gilmore. "ready to go to Perkins Tiger?"

Just wondering what the inevitable Spieth scandal will be. Some ideas so far:

Revealed that he doesn't always put the lid down on the toilet.

Video showing he brushes his teeth for less than 3 minutes.

He once parked his car in the family with kids section at the supermarket.

Tiger was THE MOST recognized athlete in the world. Spieth could walk around just about any continent in the world and barely get a nod.

I personally just don't see much of a difference between Rickie, Bubba, Rory, Rahm or Jordan. Each week they just pass a trophy back and forth.

In the days of Tiger it was Tiger and then everyone else.

I've seen them both up close and while I admire Jordan and all his accomplishments, there was just this massive aura around Tiger that I can't put into words.

Tiger was playing in a remarkably weak era which sort of made his legacy stand out. He'd be one of many these days.

Somewhat decent troll attempt.

Other than the fact the guys Tiger beat are still as highly ranked, or higher, against today's so called stacked tour.

Though it is difficult to discuss or perhaps very un-PC to discuss on a forum like this, when discussing the vaunted Woods "legacy" and "popularity", we ought to count the number of African-American PGA players that have emerged since those days of the "living legend" of golf. That, sadly, says more about "legacy" than number of wins in a period of time than anything else. Wood's "popularity" transcended much more than just playing golf, making his fall even more tragic.

Spieth cannot possibly be held to the same "popularity" standard of Wood's multi-faceted appeal.

What if Spieth was coming up in the 90s/00s and Tiger in this generation? Could Spieth transcend the game like Tiger did? Let's say Spieth did and it caused this new generation to form like it has. Could Tiger match his win percentage against this generation?

Well, Sergio is ranked #5 so....

Plus, TW, "grows up" playing 460cc and graphite instead of having to make the transition in his 20s.

Yeah, hed beat the crap out of everybody.

And if Spieth played in the Tiger era?

Phil and Ernie would have a lot more majors.

This is my objective an *unbiased* assessment ; )

Anybody who truly thinks Spieth "moves the needle" like Tiger just started watching golf 2 weeks ago.

Well, to say definitively 'no' is foolish too. He's 4-5 years into his career. Does he stack up in terms of moving the needle? No, I don't think so, not yet. But that he's already in the conversation is significant. Gonna have to bump this thread in 20 years to have a more definitive debate.
