Charlie Hoffman FTW?

So I will take the plunge and start the first and only Charlie Hoffman thread...

 

Why no love?

 

This guy seems like he is in contention or at least in the top 10 every weekend I watch golf. He is alway good for a random Thursday or Friday 65 during Majors. Also seems like a super cool cat, especially when he had the beach bum haircut.

 

I guess my point is that I'm surprised he doesn't have more of a following or that his name doesn't come up as one of the better players without a major. Is he boring? A jerk? Is he just another guy out there and I am overestimating his game?

There's something awkward about Hoffman in the way he looks and walks that just doesn't look right to me but is always pleasant in interviews.

 

As for golf he seems to play Thursday, Friday and half of Saturday and then doesn't show up on Sunday. I was surprised he shot a 68 today and was in position to win had Vegas not shot a 65. He's had a bunch of Top 10's so his game is close but he doesn't seem to handle Sunday pressure well.

Like him and JB. But they just seem to lose a step when it matters most.

6 top 10s in 25 events (3 of the last 5) is good but not great. He ranks 124th in final round scoring average.

 

He does look a bit odd the way he tilts his head at an angle when watching a shot.

I like Charley, but when I saw he was in the lead on Saturday, I thought he might fold on Sunday. Sure enough when I turned it on Sunday he was spraying it all over the yard and was hitting every second shot out of the rough or a fairway bunker. Even with taking advantage of a rule for his benefit he still came up short. BTW-based on his execution of his improved lie can you imagine how bad the shot would have been from the original fried egg lie? Charlie needs to improve his closing mentality.

I definitely root for Hoffman. I was hoping he would extend the curse of the blade and have vegas be another casualty of the blade collar.

i like hoffman alot. i get frustrated when he falls apart on the weekend tho. he places tons of times and collects checks but, c'mon man, just put together a weekend now and then!

Just because someone doesn't root for a player doesn't mean they "hate" him. That word is used WAYYYY too much today. I don't like something so I'm a "hater"? Crazy.

 

To me he's just another pga tour robot. Is there a video of him ever getting excited for anything?

I've always been a fan of Charlie. Solid player that just goes about his business without much fanfare. He seems like a good dude. He isn't the best closer, but it's hard to win tournaments on the PGA Tour.

You've got to like CH (no III). Cut off that whatever he had going with his hair and worked on his game. Especially his putting. He's not going to win 40 events, but he will win a few. He seems really down to earth and not an asshat like many of his fellow pro's. I'll keep rooting for him.

Absolutely enjoy watching him swing. I have seen other pros bobbing their heads with the ball in the air. Usually it means they have flagged it. I definitely root for him.
