Callaway Pre Owned return policy

Hey guys. Curious, how strict is Callaway pre owned return policy? I purchased a used art of apex irons, they are in terrible shape so want to return them. I swung 3 of the irons while at the range.

There is now noticeable ball marks on the face of these 3 irons.

Callaway pre owner policy states that they must be unhit for 100% refund. Curious to hear how strict they are.

Thanks

If they were in terrible shape and you wanted to return them, why did you hit any of the irons?

Sounds to me like you swung 3 of them, did not like them and have now decided to return them.

Curiosity got the best of me. Sigh. Wanted to try out the apex and recoil 780 combo and I loved it.

The reason for the return was I felt the condition of the clubs were way too beat up for the price I paid. At that point, I would pay a bit more to get brand new which I proceeded to do this morning through DD golf.

Guess we wait and see.

Call them and tell them about the condition as you see it. They will probably work something out with you.

I just returned a pair of wedges. I didn't take them out of the box, I just owned up and said I got a better deal on some Vokeys and they sent me a return slip no questions asked.

edit: They kicked back the price to my credit card too.

Also, I tried to explain to the customer service person handling my return that although "average" is the lowest rating available, these clubs looked really bad. I remember to order a bunch of clubs from cally pre owned and they were much better than the rating given.

Also, the irons arrived in plastic sleeves. No cushion or anything. I suspect these irons got new dings just from being in transit to me.

Just my two cents but when you buy clubs from them in their lowest tier you should expect working clubs but with plenty of wear on them, especially Forged clubs. Always worth the extra money to go "very good" or higher from them. With that being said, if they were already beat up just wipe down the face of the ones you hit and don't even mention it. I can't believe that anyone could see if three clubs were hit if they were already beat up pretty bad.

I have purchased lots of things/sets from CPO. In one case I got the irons and took them out to the range. And I hated them. They just felt bad.

Having never really played them I called my rep at CPO and told him the truth. No BS about they are broken, condition, or anything such as that. I just said I can't hit them and would really like to try another set. He looked at my history and said he would get his supervisor. And they allowed me the exact same amount in trade as I had paid towards another set that I knew would work because a friend already had them and I had hit them several times. (Not sure why I didn't go with them in the first place)

In the end I got yet another set that I loved and CPO earned both my respect and my loyalty. They could have easily told me to pound sand and allow me a lot less in trade. But they did the right thing. In turn, about 15 months later, I traded those X2Hot irons in for my current XR's.

And guess what. It's about that time again and I am starting to sniff around on their website. No way would I buy my irons anywhere else. Unless of course I purchase a set of Titleist because I love my Vokey wedges so much. : )

OP, so long as you call them up and explain things openly and honestly I am confident you'll end up doing/being OK.

I personally LOVE CPO. And cannot say enough good about their business practices.

Crap OP. Now you did it. I am literally heading there right now to "sniff around" some more. Getting the itch again. Thanks, OP. Thanks a lot. : )

Noted. Definitely learned my lesson. I actually think this was my first ever forged purchase from CPO. In the past, purchased woods and bob forged irons.

Medic is right on with his advise. I had an Epic with a cracked face. I contacted them and no problem. I then decided 3 days later I wanted an SZ with the recoil shaft. Called and told the truth. Checked with a supervisor and did in on the spot. Needless to say, the Epic hit my door the next day. No problem they sent a return label and back it went without a question.

Play it straight. You obviously got a very used set, tell the truth

Second this 100%. I called today and he seen my phone number and new who it was. Now I have a whole set of Epic woods coming. Can't beat the extra trade in and "frequent buyer status."

Edit to add;

Did you look at CPO or Callaway golf? CPO states that if you disagree on condition you can get a refund plus you can try for up to 90 days and get a prorated refund.

I bought a set of Steelheads last week in "like new" condition. After I received them, I found the 9 iron to a small gouge/burr on the sole and the PW had a 1/4 inch gouge on the hozel. So I called them immediately and told them these weren't like new. After some discussion, the Rep told me that they would drop the grade down and could try them out for 30 days and if I still wasn't happy to send back for full refund. I agreed, so I unpacked them. Low and behold I found that the 7 iron had the XP 95 R300, which should have been XP105 S300. I called them again the following morning and they said they would ship me out another 7 iron. After another day of thinking on it, I just wasn't happy with the whole purchase and called them and sent them back. CPO was really helpful and took the refund no questions asked. I've ordered several clubs from them and will continue to do so, but just couldn't get over the screwup on this set.

I ended purchasing a new set from Callaway.

Sounds like Callaway is really taking liberties with their condition ratings.

They're clearly not rating the clubs as accurately as they used to.

I recently purchased a used Fly Z used driver from the 'other brands' section. Was listed and sold as Like-New condition. When it arrived, it had 5-6 different spots in the crown where a metal tipped alignment rod scraped and chipped the crown and was covered up with a very poorly applied matte black nail polish.

Never took the club outside the house and had an RMA number within an hour.

Won't buy from them ever again.

I've purchased a fair amount of clubs from CPO. I never had an issue with condition rating until a recent purchase. I called and they immediately sent a replacement without charging me or waiting for the return.

I think this is exceptional customer service. I have no hesitation purchasing from CPO again.

I've probably returned 10 items or so with CPO over the years, and never had a problem. Each return was easy and I got return shipping labels from them to ship back.

That's why I buy most of my stuff from them -- I know it's zero risk.

Their CS has always been excellent, but I do feel like something has gotten a bit off with their conditions recently. I've had to send back my last 3 items that I ordered since they all seemed to be at least one condition down from what was stated and for the prices paid I just went out and got the same clubs new. I will still buy from them in the future since they have never burned me on anything and are always very helpful when you call in and talk to someone.

You kind of answered your own question, didnt you?

In all of my dealings with them, CPO service and communication is top-notch. If you didnt like the condition when they arrived, all you had to do was say something, and they would have taken them back, no questions asked. They still might take them back, but it would probably be store credit or something like that.

Like someone else said, how can CPO possibly know you hit the clubs a few times. Forged irons are going to ding up terribly, just the nature of the beasts. I play a set of 09 x-forged that I bought new. Being a minimalist, I now have half a set that looks like new, and half a set that's all banged up.

I had a set of X-12's that looked like new, when I got them from CPO in average condition. They stayed that way, no matter how much use. The same thing with a set of 1976 Karsten's I still have.

Unless a set of forged clubs just sat in a bag, they're going to look beat up in no time. Cast clubs are hardy.

But they had your back on the purchase. Is that not good customer service?

I have purchased a boatload of used items from them. In everything from Average to Outlet and have never, even once, come close to being disappointed. Average is just that and I get the impression that this is the condition the OP went with for bargain price.

Can't explain how/why your driver arrived all beat up but given that they issued an exchange or refund without much of a hassle I just don't see the "never gonna buy from them again" mentality.

Would be like eating at a nice restaurant, getting ideal service but having a small issue with the steak not being cooked to preference. You send it back and then get the perfect steak in return. And then, after leaving, you tell everyone "Well the service was superior and the steak ended up being wonderful but I am never going there again!"

Ordered an "Average" XR16 3 and 5 wood a couple days ago. Received yesterday and was pleasantly surprised at the condition. Soles had a few scratches, but the crowns and faces were in very good condition. Don't typically go "average" or "value" on other sites, but couldn't pass up the deal. Got both sticks for just under $150.
