Apple watch app, GPS from watch not phone

Has anyone found an apple watch app that uses the watch's GPS for distances rather than the phone?

The newest apple watch has the capability (can map a run without the phone) but it seems app developers haven't bothered to use it for golf.

I wonder if there's a way to use the iphone's tether to load the course and such, still operate from the phone, but just utilize the watch GPs for distances.

But as far as I know you need to switch off bluetooth as otherwise the Apple watch will still use the GPS of the phone. When there is no connection to the iPhone the Apple watch 2 will use its own GPS.

I bought the apple watch in a big part for the golf gps but it has been disappointing this far. I'll have to try the golfshot app as well

Try golfshot...

and try game golf.

 

Game golf you need the iphone to work with it. Golfshot you dont.

 

golfshot I think you get like a week free game golf is free.

 

I gave up using the apple watch it seemed flakey I bought a garmin g8 so far I really like it.

 

Solely its main purpose is just golf. :)

Hole19 can also use the Apple Watch's GPS rather than the phone. It'll need to be a Series 2 obviously, as the Series 0 and Series 1 don't have native GPS capacity.

 

Like most apps, you'll have to switch off bluetooth after starting the round to ensure that you're using the watch GPS, but you should be golden from there. :-)
