2GG Apparel minimum index...

I (like quite a few others) bought a few things from 2GG last month.

 

Just received this email...

 

 

 

"We wanted to share with you our press release explaining the big change at 2GG Apparel. Below is a copy of our press release:

 

2GG Apparel goes private

 

Mesa, AZ - 8/7/17

 

Beginning Aug 15, 2017, only golfers with an official USGA index of 9.9 or under will be able to buy 2ndGuy or 2ndGirl apparel from 2GG. Players with a qualifying index can create a free account using their GHIN number to gain access. Golf is hard and those that have earned a single digit handicap should have an apparel choice that celebrates this achievement.

 

Former MLB all-star Russ Ortiz, CEO and founder of 2GG Apparel said “As a single digit player I know firsthand what is required to earn that index. I started this company to create great golf apparel for passionate players and as a vehicle to give back. Going forward as a brand we want to focus on tailoring our apparel to the dedicated single digit player, and to be an encouragement and resource to those who work hard to achieve that distinction.”

 

2GG Apparel is a 3 year old tour tested golf apparel company based in Mesa, AZ that gives 100% of its net profits to charity. The roster of official brand ambassadors on tour include: Alex Cejka, PGA Tour, Stephan Jeager, Web.com Tour, and LPGA players Jackie Stoelting, Marissa Steen, Katherine Perry, Emily Tubert and Demi Runas."

 

At first I thought it was April 1st. It really just sounds like a gimmick.

I really liked their stuff but I am kinda put off by this (and I'm a single digit).

What kind of small business wouldn't want to eliminate 90% of their target market?

Lame...I'm a Braves fan so have some Russ Ortiz love and recently bought some 2GG apparel when they had their clearance sale. Happy with the apparel and what I thought was a pretty cool, charitable business model. However, trying to market yourself as some sort of calling card for single digit caps is weak. Hey, news flash dumbWord not allowed's some of us love golf but have 50-70 hr work weeks and families. Practice that equates to some mirror work and swings inside after the kids are in bed doesn't t always equal single digit caps. Look forward to my Sat of golf starting every Monday. I vary between a 12 and 14 as I'm not a natural single digit but shockingly am still a consumer of apparel. From charitable to exclusive...dat's one of them conundrums! ONLY SINGLE DIGIT CAPS BRAH!!! Guess I'm some kind of kook if I wear my 2GG shirts now haha. I can just hear the whispers after I duck hook my first tee ball 120 then smoke my first tee mulligan 250 down the gut...back to jean shorts and blade collars I guess:). Disclaimer, I would never wear jean shorts and personally don't care for blade collars. ??? on this one 2GG.

That's got to be a joke.

 

If not, awesome. If they actually enforce the cap by looking up your GHIN, and not selling unless you are "good enough", I guess that's one way to go bankrupt and sink your business.

 

Here's a better business model: sell to anyone who will buy your stuff.

 

If this is true, which it can't be, it'd be the greatest thing I've read on the net in quite a while. The most preposterous business idea I've heard of.

 

T-minus how many months until they go out of business?

 

EDIT: Just checked their site and it's on there and their instagram. I'm sure it's just a marketing ploy they hope gets big exposure through the media due to their "discriminating" against the mid and high cappers. Then they will "back down" and sell to everyone again. Any pub is good pub.

wasn't the company named after 'that second guy' after you, in reference to taking a mulligan and/or hitting that same shot again?

 

so we're really letting a company founded on taking a mulligan dictate the required handicap needed to wear their apparel?

 

i assume his next business venture will be a line of putter grips called 'anchor's away', but you'll be required to show proof you only used an 8802/napa putter

What's really messed up about this is that they were doing a good thing with all their profits going to charity. Now your taking money away from the charity with with this ridiculous strategy.
