What does "Getting Stuck" actually mean?

So I always here the term "He got stuck on the downswing" What exactly does that mean? We know you're suppose to keep the arms and club behind as you accelerate thru the ball. But when I hear that 'Getting stuck' phrase, it almost sounds as if keeping the arms and club behind you on the downswing is setting you up for being stuck.

 

Some clarification would be appreciated.

What part of "you" are you defining as "you" when you refer to the club being behind you?

Th eproblem with golf instruction is that this phrase means differnet things to different instructors.

 

It can mean:

 

1. Shaft drops under parallel plane on the downswing (Haney)

2. Shaft drops under right forearm

3. Clubhead behind hands in delivery position.

4. Right elbow behind right hip

5. Right hand arching and dropping the clubhead under the right forearm coming down

6. Poor sequencing with the lower body outracing the upper body and arms

etc...

Isn't getting stuck just like losing lag? Meaning both are just from bad sequencing?

If right elbow behind the right hip was your indicator then this guy is massively stuck isn't he?

A bit off topic but I would like to point something out about MJ's impact position in this still.It is not that great in terms of athleticism.He's not very "open" to the target like where your seeing his left butt cheek and he's slightly EE'd.Now this man is one of the finest golfers on planet Earth as we speak.He has had an incredible career in the game because of his consistency.My whole point is that this guy makes a far from perfect move and has done quite well.Should give us mere mortal average Joe's some hope anyway.It does me......

He does the lawnmower pull (not a fan) on the backswing, but gets it back in position in transition.

Is he ever stuck though? For his pattern he's not stuck is he? It seems like alot of old timers let the elbow get behind the hip too.

I think if you let elbow get behind your hip it doesn't mean you're stuck.

How is a club that's described being "behind you" defined? Until it is, it seems it may be a pointless pursuit.

Two forms of stuck as is most talked about by instructors.

1.) Arms TOO far behind body in downswing

2.)club TOO far behind body in downswing (too shallow).

If you consider both of the above as exaggerated feels to get somewhere in the middle, the confusion my disappear.
