San Antonio Courses

Actually the wife and I are thinking pretty serious about retiring in the Boerne area in 2-3 years. I have played several of the courses mentioned in this thread and have played Tapatio probably more than others. Really nice area and great courses, also some really good motorcycle roads. My other get-away.

Had a buddy play there last month and said they are still in bad shape.

Played cedar creek yesterday and greens were nice and smooth, fairways in great shape as well.

I'd agree for the most part about the fairways. Especially the front nine. Better course management on my part I'm sure would be helpful haha. A few of the fairways seem to choke in around the typical driver landing area. #18, #15, and I think #14 come to mind. Overall, the course was in great shape, a good amount of challenging and interesting tee shots. Looking forward to going back and playing again.

Yeah I played Sunday and it was amazing. But I knew they were punching. City publishes their maintenance calendar now.

I hit up Brack today. 1 week after a punch and I’ve never in my life seen greens that good after a week. Almost fully smooth and healed. Nuts.

  • 2 weeks later...

I Recently moved to San Antonio and looking to play with (no matter the handicap) I just returned back to golf from a 3 year layoff so my game is in progress. Would love to meet some WRXs from San Antonio and play. Have only played 2 rounds since coming back 4 months ago, since I dont like playing by myself, so I have just defaulted to range sections.

Played Willow Springs yesterday, first time out there in about 10 years, managed a 74 so it was a good day.

Course is in really good shape, fairways and tees were excellent and geeens were good overall, I had just forgotten how many sweeping putts the course has.

I just moved due to work, so I had to blindly lease an apartment for 12 months before coming here. Right now im living close to Austin Hwy, fairly close to Quarry and Edwin Watts, etc.. But after living here a few months, my wife and I are looking to move to either Cantera, Quarry or Vance Jackson area in a few months. Both of my rounds have been on Canyon Springs, which I like (played 2 corp events)

I play at Brack like 2-3 times a week after work around 4:15 if you wanna join. I usually play until 7:15ish

For my personal course updates:

Cedar is still recovering

Brack is in excellent shape 3 weeks after punch.

San Pedro greens are rolling excellently and the tees are good

Palmer course greens were slow and bunkers were trash. They need bunker work ASAP.

Do you also play on weekends? I rarely could play during the week (except for night range sections), since I leave at 6:00-7:00 pm, depending on the day. But I'm up for any weekend Play : )

I do play weekends but not usually casual / practice rounds. I usually have a set skins or tournament on weekends.

Brack is in great shape

Olmos is in good shape except the greens are slow. True and smooth, but slow.

Heading down to SA this weekend, we have a morning tee time at TPC Oaks on Saturday and looking for an afternoon round. Thinking of staying there and playing the Canyons course or hopping on over to the Palmer. Has anyone played the Canyon's lately? I haven't played it in a couple of years. I think I like Palmer better, but just thinking maybe out of convenience since we wouldn't have to drive.

Be careful with the Palmer, I think JBrid said the greens and bunkers were in rough shape. I played the Resort about a month ago and the greens weren’t in great shape there either.

Sounds good...just be ready for some heat...we haven’t hit 100* yet this summer and it’s supposed to be 103* this weekend.

Played Cedar on Thursday and the greens have pretty much recovered from the punching they did a few weeks ago. Still some sand in the edges but overall in good shape, just a little slow.

Olympia Hills and Silverhorn are awesome. Played both yesterday.

I think OH punch is coming up but they said needle punch so won’t be as bad.

Horn punched 2 or 3 weeks ago and is fully recovered and greens are gr8.

Brackenridge Park was pristine on Thursday.

Last Sunday Olmos was in fine shape, just slow.
