I really enjoy this gentleman's posts on IG as well as his YouTube channel. He's a must follow in my opinion.

Completely agree, has some great content.

The thing I find hard with this move, as Dan (iteach) has said I need more of it in the past and I'm sure I still do, is how to get this move whilst still having a good downswing pivot. When I focus on the arms doing this move I then have very little turn through the ball

Because you have too much tilt too soon. Left side moving down and forward allows arms to get wider coming down. If you tilt early your shoulders speed up relative to arm and the angle gets smaller

Is that what that means? What do people do who don't do that? (It can't be the key to golf because that's what I do by default.)

For me, it means trail shoulder up as the arms work down, out, and then around. Tilt later ...

Or, it can just mean the arms are swinging faster than the shoulders are turning. What I'm asking is, doesn't everyone do that? And, if not, wtf are they doing instead? You'd have to have some seriously screwed up notion to keep this not from happening.

There are a boat load of reasons that lead to this.

Upper body moving laterally, upper body tilting too much, lack of backswing hip turn, no upper/lower body separation, arms/hands moving in wrong direction, etc.

All "tips" are welcome. Instruction not desired.

Oh! Now that I think about it, that's exactly what a friend of mine does (upper body thing). I guess it never dawned on me as his is not so much of a 'golf swing' as it is a sign he should quit.

Not Dan but I will answer. Yes the upper center and left side both move down and forward early in transition.

Thanks Michael

Dave,

So I understand this correctly, are you suggesting you want to increase this sort of angle? Is this a similar thing to the arms trailing too much behind the body in the sequencing or have I got that all wrong?

This has been a tough feel for me to get as I am better with right sided feels.....but something did click with this for me last week.....You have to get the arm off the chest in the proper direction....for me it feels like it's behind me to the left....for others it may be different. Once i figured that out, I was striping it and now I feel comfortable adding this to my list of feels when the right side doesn't want to accommodate.

If the arms don't swing faster than the shoulders, you'll be facing the beer girl by the time you hit the ball. I guarantee you, if someone were trying to kill you and all you had was a golf club to defend yourself, your left arm would come off your chest as fast as you could make it.

What's wrong with facing the beer girl????? lol

Thanks! It's the first time I've understood this. I can see now why it's called pinned to chested, if the torso moves but the left arm doesn't that angle between the inside top arm and the chest reduces!

What sort of shots would doing this poorly generate?

Flipping through impact because the hands will usually be behind at impact. So, could be thin shots, weak slappy contact fades, low pulls.

You don't want to be facing the beer girl while one of your balls is facing the other way.

Dave,

So I understand this correctly, are you suggesting you want to increase this sort of angle? Is this a similar thing to the arms trailing too much behind the body in the sequencing or have I got that all wrong?

Yes

Dave, your practice swing and first move is a spin out, you get that left leg and hip behind you immediately. Looks like you lose your footwork in your left foot. Bound to tip the shaft out at the very least. It's like you have no transition, just get to the top and... Bang! That's my clumsy way of describing it anyway.

Have you tried waiting on it a bit in transition, not firing your body until the club is synced back up with you? Just an observation. It's like your downswing is a sudden reflex. I think you have more time than you think to change direction an do all the things suggested above, before you pile on the gas.

The other thing is an extremely closed clubface at the top of the swing. I see this as a bit chicken and egg. Is your downswing concept 'rotation', which you perform as a spin, opening and steepening the club, hence your brain gives you a closed top of backswing; or

- because you set it closed you spin out and steepen to open it to square on the way down?

Because you have too much tilt too soon. Left side moving down and forward allows arms to get wider coming down. If you tilt early your shoulders speed up relative to arm and the angle gets smaller

Does this what Dana shows around 0:35 seconds come close to what you are proposing, Dan?

Yes

Not Dan but I will answer. Yes the upper center and left side both move down and forward early in transition.

Kind of what people would call a little over the top move?

Wouldn't call it an over the top move.
