KBS C-Taper vs Project X vs Project X LZ

I was fitted for a set of Titleist 718s last week - unfortunately, I was unable to try every shaft and head combo that I wanted. Here is my dilemma that I am hoping to get some feedback on:

 

- Currently play AP2 716s with KBS C-Taper R+ shafts (Regular +)

- Was able to hit the new 718s with Project X - LX in 5.5 flex (similar to R+ I think)

- Regular Project X shafts were not available at the fitting

 

I am curious as to anyone's experience in comparing the PX LZ shafts to the regular Project X shafts. Also interested in feedback of C-Taper vs Project X shafts.

 

As info, my driver SS is 100-105, 7 iron carry is 160, and I have a moderate tempo and transition.

That seems really light for those numbers.

 

Mine are slightly higher than yours and I would hit C taper S+ or 6.0 project X hardstepped once. Despise the LZ profile and feel.

 

Currently playing tour v 120x Soft stepped once which are perfect.

 

Of course I'm steep, quick, and a hitter, not a swinger

Thanks for your response - yeah, I play 6.0 shafts in my driver and hybrid, and R+/5.5 in my irons. (I played PX 6.0 a few years back and they just felt too stiff for me - go figure.)

Seems a bit light to me. I had a fitting recently, and had an SS of 93-93mph with a 6i, and was recommended a PX6.5 by the machine, but felt the 6.0 was better for me, and later dispersion and test hitting bore that out.

My driver SS was not much faster than your (107mph with the shaft I chose). Tempo and transition were also moderate--4 on the Mizuno swing DNA.

 

However, I didn't hit the LZ, so I can't help you out there.

The Project X LZ feel much softer in the hands and at impact compared to the regular Project X. For me the ball flight was higher with the LZ as well. The C-Taper was the harshest feel at impact of the three for me. The C-Taper spun significantly less. Of the 3 I would want to be most sure of the flex I got if I had C-Taper just because it takes so much to load that shaft. It goes C-Taper, Project X, then LZ, in terms of most harsh to softest feel, based on my experiences. Iron shafts are all about what feel you like the best, with respect to what gets you the right numbers in terms of that launch window and the angle the ball is landing.

I was also fit for PX LZ 5.5 for m MP18's, previous in stiff for my previous set of irons. I was thinking I wouldn't get what i wanted with the 5.5 but they felt great. My carry for a 7 iron is also about 160-165. I could care less about what the label says as long as I am getting the flight and distance I want.

This topic is interesting to me..through the years I have played S300's, rifle 5.5, KBS tour S, XP95 S300. I just picked up a set of MP 25/5's off the BST with C taper lites in them. I really like them and the flight (I have no idea what the numbers are in relation to spin or launch) but they do feel a bit harsh...not that buttery Mizuno feel - to me.

I'd probably save myself a lot of money if I would just go get fit....

C-taper imo is much better, I was fit for C-Taper 130x and love them.

FWIW, I had an interesting experience using the Mizuno Shaft Optimizer - it knows what I like.

 

Had different experiences using the online fitting questionnaires on True Temper and KBS's site.

 

Try Mizuno's optimizer and then go to outside demo days and try what it recommends.

I am in the exact same configuration as you.

I played C-tapers stiff for 2 years and just make the switch to PX LZ 5.5 recently. I just love these of these LZ. Performance is for me quite similar to original PX but with lot of feel. The ball is high with nice flat trajectory!!
