Short Game/Putting Instruction in Nashville

Can anyone on here recommend a good short game/putting instructor in the Nashville area who would be willing to work with someone who fundamentally distrusts golf pros?

 

I've been playing really, really well lately. I've got that new Taylormade app that gives you strokes gained stats and I'm consistently +2-+4 for both driving and approach shots, but end up giving them all back on the greens. Seriously, I make like 20 feet of putts max in a round. Pretty good at lag putting, but if I'm outside 4 feet it just flat won't go in no matter how well I hit it and it's really frustrating me. It's gotten to the point that I keep a "Strokes Lost to Putting" stat where I list every putt inside 8 feet or so that I miss and it's regularly in the 6-10 range at the end of a round.

 

Here's my biggest issue and requirement with a golf pro though: I don't ever want to hear the word 'trust' during a lesson. I've been to several really, really bad golf pros and absolutely do not trust anyone who teaches golf for a living. Nearly every golf pro I have ever been to has set me back significantly (I'm sorry, but I don't care how much you like my swing if my 8 iron is going 125 and crooked and I'm having to ice my back after the lesson. If I haven't hit a single decent shot in 3 months you don't get to tell me I'm on track), so basically I need a golf pro who will accept that I assume every single thing he tells me is him (or her) trying to make me worse so I'll blow more money on lessons and who will not tell me to trust them.

 

I work my butt off at golf, and if you give me something to try that I can see potential in, I will spend a lot of time working at it, but I'm not willing to just blindly try something that just makes my problems worse the more I work at it, and I need a golf pro that is willing to back off and try something else if I get to the point where I realize the tip isn't going to work.

You aren't going to find what you are looking for in Nashville. Go see David Orr or Mike Shannon. Those 2 you can probably drive..all others locally you will probably be wasting your time.

I respectfully disagree. Barney Alary is very skilled in short game / putting teaching. He teaches out of Old Hickory Country Club. Give him a call. Highly recommended!

That may be the case but they don't have the nationally know repetition that the op seems to need to accept and make a change. If David Orr says this is what you need to do to get better...only a very arrogant fool would tell him he is wrong.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll give Barney a call and see if he's sort of what I'm looking for. To be honest though, I couldn't care less about reputation, all I want is a golf pro who is willing to back off if I've been doing something for two months and have only gotten worse instead of dogmatically sticking to his guns even when it's obvious it's going nowhere.

Barney's teaching method is to keep everything simple and work on the items that help you improve and play better golf. He doesn't push his agenda. I hope you will get a favorable result working with him.
