Bouncing Back From a Pinched Nerve

Anyone here struggled with a pinched nerve in the past? What specific actions did you take to bounce back?

As for my personal situation, I'm a true weekend warrior with a 9-5 desk job. I've really slacked off on fitness this year, and it caught up to me in a bad way last month. I've been dealing with a pinched nerve causing pain in my left leg. I've started specific stretching routines to help the healing process, but I'm looking to add an exercise routine to help build the strength back up as well. Obviously these need to start off very light and I'll work my way back up to full speed.

Anyway, what did you do? What worked? What made it worse? How long was your recovery time?

i came back in the last month or so from pinching a nerve in the right side of my neck. it gave me fits at first whenever i took a swing b/c of the coil in the backswing --

took some time off and with some short rehab and rest, i'm all good now.

I had a pinched nerve in the left shoulder blade. The pain was intense and tingling down the left arm to the point couldn't raise my arm or hold a cup of coffee. Sleep reduced to 3-4 hours a night.

after several weeks of this and then going to a doctor, who identified the problem straight away. I spent 6 weeks visiting a sports physiotherapist 2 times a week who would do some particular manipulation massage to ease the pressure on the never. Combination of pain killers, hot and cold patches, and certain stretching everyday as well over 2 months alleviate the problem to the point i could do a regime of some weights to strengthen the back and the muscles around the shoulder blades, as physio said to stop the nerves slipping between the muscles.

Overall approxiamely 4 months to get back to normal.

Were you ever diagnosed as to where the pain is originating from?

Not formally from a doctor, but my sister is a PT. She narrowed it down to the L5 sciatic nerve based on where I've had pain and numbness. I've been able to walk fine so far, just a little uncountable. Stretches she gave me have been massively helpful, but we still weren't sure on timelines to when I'll likely be back up to speed, but I guess you never really know either.

Yah, just wondered if it was isolated to a root cause in the back or somewhere else.

Best of luck! Physical therapy will help some and hurt others, I was the later. That's usually a first step though.

I feel your pain. I woke up one morning last week and couldn't turn my head to the right without excruciating pain. From my neck to my shoulder. Obviously I couldn't swing a club and even driving was difficult. Hard to check you blind spots when you cant turn your neck haha. It's been close to a week and a half and I'm still not 100% but I'm able to perform my daily functions and swing a club. My neck is still fairly stiff. I did a lot of stretching and constantly put heat packs on my neck. It's ironic because I live a very active lifestyle but it seems like the body just falls apart every now and then.

Yes, it mostly just spikes at various times around the day. Sitting in an office all day certainly isn't helping.

I was thinking the same thing....I'm too lazy lately to do the necessary stretching back exercises to keep from having pain, but if I can't sleep 2 nights in a row, I get back to it
