Are we addicts looking for a fix?

Are you excited or nervous about what you're going to try or work on every time you go to the driving range or Golf Course? Is this the same feeling a gambler gets when walking into a casino or a drug addict gets before he gets high?

How else can you explain grown men throwing golf clubs, swearing, and having temper tantrums? Is it because they want their fix and they just can't get it?

Then there's the euphoric feeling that you get when you play well like everything is going to be okay and you finally figured it all out. Only to find out once the fix wears off you're right back two trying to find another one.

The swing thought is the slot machine/drug

It's no wonder why people think they need them so bad.

Most people would be better without slot machines or drugs so wouldn't they be better without swing thoughts?

Go through withdrawal every November. Seems impossible that you can't play anymore and then you just remove the clubs from the back of the SUV and put in the snow shovel and winter gear. Then you start surfing the internet for how far you have to go to get golfing weather and is it a direct flight.

I'll admit that I get really down on any Saturday or Sunday that I don't play golf. Year round.

Whether it's plans, weather, or something out of my control, I never just say "oh well" and move on. I'll spend the entire time wishing, wanting, and/or planning how I could still play....

"Chasing swing changes and swing theory has become - in the age of Internet golf - an addiction all unto itself.

I remember when things used to be different!

The addiction part happens due to the flood of dopamine in your brain when you experience a "light bulb moment" and/or a much better ball flight result when working on a new move.

If one is not careful, the pursuit of that "natural high" will replace any rational kind of swing improvement plan.
