Iron Factory Refurb Review -- '14 TM TP MBs -- Delivered 10/23; Finished pics ADDED!

After deliberating on which of my sets I wanted to get redone, I figured this set would look classic and clean if done up right. I weighed a few options about where to go, and decided after talking to a few friends on here i'd send these to the Iron Factory.

 

Glad I chose this set to redo -- side note, I found out my C-Tapers that were in these were bent at the tips on all but 2 shafts. The heads themselves have browning but thankfully not a whole lot of real nicks/dings.

 

I'm going to get a few things done --

 

1) Refurbish - finish will be "Tour Chrome Bright" - polished with black paint fill in the Iron # and logo on the back of the club, "FORGED" on the neck in White

2) Re groove

3) Welding over the 'MB' and 'Tour Preferred' notations on the back of the blade for a cleaner look

 

Before going out, i weighed each head:

PW: 293g

Can't wait to get these back - should be pretty awesome. Trying to decide which shafts I want to put in these -- either DG TI 120 X100's or Modus 125X's

I've had them do a couple of sets for me. Always in the satin finish. I'm sure they will do a good job. Be patient however, they are not the quickest in the world and you will not get a ton of communication during the process. However, when I did call they were always very nice.

i have a few iron sets so, getting them back asap isn't necessary and after reading the reviews -- i have an idea what i'm in for.

 

i talked to him on the phone already so, he knows they're in route. when you got them back, what % of the nicks/dings you had in them prior to refurb was he able to get out you figure?

I got the chance to talk to Jim yesterday on the phone - we walked through the build and what i was looking for exactly, and to my surprise he said it shouldn't take but 2 weeks or so go get them back to me.

 

i decided instead of going with modus 125 or dg -- i'll be going with Modus 105x instead.

update -- my heads ship back to me this thursday -- i talked to jim this morning and he said they came out great -- just need to be chromed. super stoked and can't believe how fast he's getting these back to me.

The 2014 do look good, great choice for a Refurb and will have a Cool look with the welded up bits!!

Re KBS Shafts

 

I contacted them recently regarding tip failures in a set of KBS Tours, the mid irons were all bent inside the hosel. KBS arranged for a replacement set within about 2 weeks. All I needed to do was provide pictures of the pulled shafts.

I contacted them recently regarding tip failures in a set of KBS Tours, the mid irons were all bent inside the hosel. KBS arranged for a replacement set within about 2 weeks. All I needed to do was provide pictures of the pulled shafts.

I'll post pics when i actually get them back. Talked to Jim yesterday, said that he was dipping a few of them in the chrome again to help get the weight up in a few of them -- they should go out the latest Monday, may have went out today.

Yes, they were previously, and i requested them to be USGA conforming after the process.

these were a set i bought from a guy off eBay, played them for a bit but kept them in the backup bag. They were worn a bit by the time i got them. Rarely am I hitting 9i on the range. Usually my 52, then 7, then 5, then 3w, then driver, back to 7i, then onto the putting green.

I totally get that approach and would probably default to that if I weren't such a nutbag. I alternate my warm-up clubs so I always get even wear throughout the bag.
