Iron Restoration Experiences Pro’s and Cons

I would like to hear your best and worst experiences with Golf Club Restoration Companies. It’s up to you if you would like to name the company or not, if you don’t want to name the company publicly you can PM me that information. I am looking to restore my 79/80 Titleist Tour Model Iron set 2-PW with Mint Shafts, mint shaft bands and ferrules. This set was a custom ordered set with matching serial numbered Woods(D,3,4,5) that are in flawless condition. Thanks a bunch to everyone who responds.

Why refinish clubs that are in Flawless condition?

The woods are flawless, the irons on the other hand have less than normal bag clatter/dings and the previous owners use some heavy abrasive on the faces and the nickel base plating shows on most of the clubs and I want to refresh the grooves. I think the woods were hardly used, maybe they used another set of woods. Not sure.

+1. Had a great experience with them also. In 2015 I send my Hogan Precisions to him. It's not cheap compared to the prices we're used to paying for vintage clubs but it is a pretty good deal compared to the cost of brand new clubs.

Feel obliged to chime in...

Several years ago, I picked up a set of irons, head only. They were rechromes from Iron Factory such as I remember. They look good, the weight progression is a bit off, but nothing egregious.

Hadn't done anything with them, largely thru indecision and/or procrastination. Early on, I'd noticed the PW had been bored parallel. Odd, but something I could largely live with.

This past year, I'd decided to try graphite shafts and had chosen this particular set for the graphite experiment. Turns out, three of the clubheads have been bored to parallel, the 3 and 6 as well as the PW.

I don't have irons I've been looking to rechromes, but this doesn't exactly fill me with confidence in the Iron Factory.

In defense of Jim through my experience, if you do not detail what you want done very clearly on each club he is going to just do what you ask him to do

If someone sent him a set of heads to rechrome I doubt very much he is going to check the hosel size unless asked to unless he was asked to rebuild them with shafts, then he is going to mention they are off because he had to shaft them. But if he is re chroming only I doubt he would notice,??

I have seen some Precision heads rechromed that some of the hosels were ladies , much smaller than 355, obviously he , or whoever did them did not notice the difference and I had too have them bored out to 355

I had a full spec sheet, with pictures on what I wanted done. Even included the head weights prior to work.

This is true, but in the instance I mention, the set was sent in 2-PW, tapered, and were only a rechrome. To randomly bore three heads to .370 seems more than odd.

I really only brought it up so that folks are aware it may not be a 100% experience. <shrug>

I really only brought it up so that folks are aware it may not be a 100% experience. <shrug>
