Can't draw your driver....SF Tec!

Going to a Ping fitting tomorrow, always liked their drivers but found I couldn't get any real distance out of them, I too am steep into the ball and fight a cut and lack of distance so maybe the SF Tec could be the answer!! I'm always scared of high lofts though as where I play its as windy as anything most days. Good old UK weather!!

Just ordered one yesterday. 12 degree regular shaft. I also have a 2015 Great Big Bertha. Will be interesting to see how they compare.

I am a Ping player throughout the bag and currently play a G series LS Tec 9* lofted up to the big + at 44 inches with the Tour stiff 80 gram shaft. I have at least 4 different shafts with Ping adapters at various lengths that I have experimented with so I set out to find a head only to play around with. I just received a G 12 degree SF Tec in mint condition so I will rotate shafts and report back. First session coming Wednesday.....

Anyone try the M2 D type?

 

I recently got the M2 D-type and I love it. I never thought I would like a "draw driver" but must say...great stuff. No crazy hooks and feel like you can just hit it hard and not lose it right.

My 12 degree SFT head arrived today. I have an extra tfc 419 shaft to put in it. I'll compare it to my g30 10.5 standard this weekend and will report back.

Quick update. It was nice in Chicago today so I got out and played 27.

 

A little about me. Currently a 6.1 index. Been playing a g30 10.5 reg for the past 3 seasons. My SS with the driver is low 90s. I drive the ball relatively low, almost always a draw, carry it maybe 210 with another 20 yards of roll out. I good drive for me is 230, a great drive 245-250.

 

I REALLY enjoyed playing the 12 SFT today. It definitely launched higher than my 10.5, and almost always had a nice soft little draw. The club is definitely not closed. Honestly, I don't find it draw biased at all. On one par 5, dogleg right, I was able to hit a 10 yard fade.

 

On 18, I hit the 12 SFT nice and high with a 5-7 yard draw. It ended up about 230 out there. I teed up another ball so I could hit the 10.5. I absolutely smoked it (so I thought). It came out lower than the SFT and on a really boring trajectory. I figured it would be at least 10-15 yards past the SFT. When I got up to the balls, the shot I hit with the 10.5 was maybe 3 yards ahead of the SFT.

 

I'll be keeping the SFT in the bag for a while.

I am still loving the M2 D-Type as well. I have settled on the Diamana M+ 60 S, and it is working great. In the fairway plenty, in play mostly otherwise, and rarely in bad trouble.

 

Good to hear the SF Tec is working out for you e-man. I gave the G SF Tec another chance with a different shaft, and it still did not outperform the D-Type. SF Tec is still a good option for lots of folks, but the M2 D-Type is really under the radar. It is really a great driver for those looking for some draw bias without anything extreme.

I have used the driver for about 10 rounds, and it still impresses me. I went to a strange course, and was able to trust my lines...I have not had that in years...the only thing I could trust in the past was a 40 yard cut that flew 240.

Question about the adjustments on this driver. I just got one. I know there is the standard setting and then you have the small plus, big plus, small minus, big minus.

 

The small plus and small minus are supposed to be .6 degree adjustments. I read somewhere where the small adjustments changes the lie angle as well? I just notice that if you do the small minus or small plus it seems to make things more severe in terms of ball flight and the way it reacts. The big plus or big minus will certainly raise or lower ball flight(loft effect), but to me it seems much easier to hit it straight with the bigger adjustments one way or another. When I adjusted in between it did some funky stuff.

4 handicap...struggled with the modern driver and squaring it up. Can hit everything else straight or a slight draw, but not the driver. And even though I hit a 7 iron 175 yds, I could not hit my driver much past 250 (106 mph swing speed). 915 10.5 with Rogue or AD DI...cranked close. Just could not draw it...my miss was a block cut...

 

Was in the pro shop and I saw a Ping G 12* SF Tec...thought, what the heck...played 9 holes...was intrigued but did not love the Alta shaft...had a Rogue silver and put it in and OMG!!!!! Pounded it all weekend...my miss was a 5 yard cut, but hit many baby draws...not once a big hook! And long! I seriously gained 25-30 yards because the head was squaring up.

 

I am absolutely amazed at the technology! If you have problems squaring up a 460cc head, try one of the slice correcting models...Dilly, Dilly!

Your golf game sounds EXACTLY like mine. Long as hell with irons, struggle with driver consistency. Steepness that I cant break. Gonna try your driver advice!

This is me, too. 185-190 carry with a 7 iron, and only carry my driver like 260. I am one steep mofo. I'm gonna work on shallowing out my swing next season. When I was a decent golfer I was about a club shorter with the irons and carried my driver around 280. Kinda the opposite of now. I would gladly give up some iron distance for more consistency and carry with the driver.

 

And you just described my golf game to a "tee"! Used to be fairly long off tee, then without much research was told the good players all "hit down on the ball" and "trap it" so I got SUPER steep and haven't been able to come back from that yet. Honestly just starting to get back to decent scores with the steeper swing.
