Is the goal to actually get better or is it just the fun of getting and testing new clubs that keeps you going?

I'd like to get better. I also LOVE hitting golf clubs. I know that most of the ones I get are just going to see the range but every once in a while I'll be surprised. Prior to this year I carried a PW as my only wedge. I could hit every wedge shot with it by altering the loft/face angle so I thought they were mostly a novelty. I bought a couple actual wedges that weren't stock set wedges and my eyes were opened. I stopped trying to put a round object in a square hole and now fit each object in the appropriate one. I also replaced a 200.00 3w with a 10.00 one because it just flat out works better for me. Sure it's probably 5 yards behind it distance wise on a dead nutt strike but I'm so much more consistent with it and so much more confident in it that it made its way into my gamer set. I don't usually buy them with that intention but more as something that I'd like to hit and if the chips fall a certain way then I've got the satisfaction of hitting them AND they've made my game better.

Mostly just because I enjoy hitting golf clubs though. Sometimes I'll buy a hard to hit club for the challenge and sometimes I'll buy an easy to hit one because it's easy to hit. I love them all!

Some people purchase gear in hopes of getting a better game, others like shiny new thing and simply enjoy hitting the new stuff. You obviously fall into the latter category, and it's more of a "hobby" than anything else...so I say buy away! lol

As to the former, searching for a better game through constantly purchasing new gear usually doesn't work out.

Whew. Feel better now. I did promise not to buy anything tonight so I'm going to hold myself to that. I'm a man of my word after all. (Makes note to NOT check email since that evil CPO no doubt will entice me-and who amongst us can resist 30% off low everyday prices AND free shipping??).

Nothing wrong with experimenting with some different clubs to get a feel for what works for your game. I've done quite a bit of that myself, and have settled in on certain areas that I now know work for me. Doing it on the cheap is even better so kudos to you for not just buying every new club that hits the showroom floor. I like to settle in on a bag before the season starts, and ride it out with very few tweaks along the way. Golf is so precise, and confidence can be such a huge factor in the game that flip flopping all over the place just wreaks havoc on the scorecard.

Larry,

Its only a problem if you can't afford it. It's a hobby, enjoy it!(sounds like you are). There's nothing wrong with being hardcore.

Golf is really not that bad compared to some other sports if you're hardcore. ( 60k bass boats and 1k rod reel combos, 10k road/mountain bikes etc).

Sounds like your a pretty good player. Find a set of irons you like hitting/looking at(some obscure set maybe JDM) and set a goal to put some nice wear spots on them.

Driver bug is incurable I think, youre on your own there haha.

OP,

Do yourself a favor and don't look at JDM equipment. I fell into that "trap" recently. Instead of 6-8 golf equipment brands available in the US, there are 40+ boutique JDM brands.

Stealth HD 9* (MotoreX F3 5R)

Bertha Mini 1.5 12* (Pro Launch Blue 65R)

Apex UW 19* (MMT 70S)

0311XP Gen3 4-PW (Accra 90i S)

Vokey Forged 52.10M (steel)

Vokey Forged Black 58.12K (steel) or WedgeWorks Low Bounce K 58* (steel)

HiToe 64* (steel)
WHP 7CS or Jailbird Versa

2019 TP5x or Tour Response

I am going to take a sneak peak to see if there are any Mizuno iron sets that are appropriate though. Not to buy of course but just to maybe check it out. I'll stay strong, if for nothing else, for the children!

I've got a nice set of MP69's waiting for you........embrace the chase and live in the dark.....mwahahahahahahaha...?

The only thing detrimental in your hobby, is the fact, that unless you're driving a junker, a very expensive item sits outside while golf clubs, virtually worthless unless you or I want to buy them, sit cozily in the garage.

It's amazing how most people use their garages as storage units. Cars don't have the pedestal appeal they once had. I recall new car models used to be a big deal. People used to crowd around to see a neighbor's new car. Now, who cares.

Forgive my digression, but I still use my garage as intended, for my beloved car.
