Titleists new fairway wood - 906F4 compared to the 906F2

Will they mix together in the same bag ?

I wonder if anyone have tested the new and upcoming Titleist 906F4 fairway wood ?

It should have a more shallow face, but still offer plenty of forgiveness for a Titleist fariway wood.
I'm not exactly looking for forgiveness, but more in search for the perfect combo of fairway woods in my bag.

I'm thinking of a mid faced 906F2 strong 3 wood for tee shots and for off the deck shots in the rough, where the ball lies on top of the rough (almost tee'ed up) and then a shallow faced 906F4 strong 4 wood for off the deck shots from tight lies on the fairway.

How do you feel about such a combination of woods and have you considered mixing up a shallow faced and deep faced set of woods in your own bag ?

It will either be:

1. 906F2 13° & 906F4 15.5°
2. 906F2 15° & 906F4 18.5

I too am a little torn. I have a 15* f2 now, and I have been wanting to add a 5 wood. My problem has been that the 5 wood (f2) is 18*, not a significant difference from the 15* (I don't know if 3* will give me the 10-15 yard gap I am looking for). I think the best case scenario is a 13* f2 and the new 18.5* f4. I hit the 15* f2 240-250 off the tee, 230-240 off the deck, and I am looking for the 220-230 off the deck 5-wood with the nice high, soft landing trajectory for the 2nd shot on par 5's (usually 230 yards at the most). I am hoping the 18.5* f4 fits that bill.

Also, regarding shafts; I have the V2 in my 15* and love it, but the f4's do not come stock with the V2's! I have read that the VS proto (stock shaft) plays similar to the V2 with a little higher trajectory, so it may work out. Do you think I should custom order the V2 in the f4 since it fits me so well (the Titleist rep fit me into the V2 with driver and 3-wood). What do you guys think of the limited shaft options in the new f4's?

I never thought of going F2 13° and F4 18.5°.........this might also be a very good solution.

I pulled the trigger and ordered the 18.5* F4 from Discount Dans yesterday. Quoted ship date is 8/8. I ordered mine with the V2 75g stiff shaft. I am now on the lookout for a used 13* F2 with the V2 to complete my setup.

Sorry, it is supposed to ship early SEPTEMBER, like the 8th (about 3 weeks). I was looking at the wrong calendar!

The 18° 906F2 is very, very easy to hit from almost any lie.

 

Personally, I would go with a graphite shafted 15.5° 906F4 and a steel shafted 18° 906F2.

The more lofted the club, the more a shallow face puts me in the danger zone for a pop up, while the shallow face works well for me with 13° to 15° lofts. With only 2.5° of loft difference, the shorter steel shaft will reign the 5 wood in some.

This is the reason why I might go for the F2 13° and the F4 15.5°.

I like a deep faced wood off the tee for when my driver doesn't work and for holes where a 3 wood simply would be a better club to hit - hence the deep faced F2 strong 3W would be great. Then I need a club I can hit off tight fairway lies on long par 5's with great control - hence I think the 15.5° F4 would work well.

So maybe I'm going for a F2 13° and F4 15.5°...........not sure though.......yet..... :beruo: :) ............. :black eye:

 

NB I don't think you can hit a pop up with a shallow faced F4 from a tight cut fairway lie. The dangerous place for pop ups with a fairway wood is when the ball lies in semi rough or on top of rough, almost tee'ed up. IN this situation the deep faced F2 will come to the rescue and no pop ups will happen.

Mine came in Friday 8/3. I have not tried it out yet though. I ordered the 18.5* f4 with the V2 shaft (75-s, 81g). I also picked up a used 13* f2 w/ stiff v2 that should be here Friday (9/7). I will try the combo out this weekend! If all goes well, I should be listing a 15* f2 with V2 shaft (stiff) in the BST soon.
