A day at the Spa - My Scotty gets a makeover by J Rich (Pic Heavy)

A little background first. When I was about 10 years old a good family friend had an indoor putting green. They kept a Scotty Cameron Teryllium Newport Two putter there to putt with. As a young kid, I probably romanticized it a bit, but since then I always wanted one. I toyed around with other putters and different Scottys, never felt like dropping the money. Well I'm about to turn 30 so I went ahead and pulled the trigger. I found a used one on Ebay knowing that I would get it completely refinished. So, here is my experience.

 

This is the Scotty I bought on Ebay... I've always loved the Newport look. In fact, my other Scotty is a Newport mid slant, but I loved the idea of the Newport. No lines, no distractions.

 

 

 

 

 

Obviously, it wasn't in bad shape by any means, but my name isn't John so it's wasn't a match made in heaven either. However, I went for it because they sell for stupid amounts to this day.

 

At first, I thought I would leave them bumper stamps and add a Jackpot Johnny stamp on the face from the Scotty Cameron shop so the stamps made at least some sense. So first, I sent her off to the Custom Shop. For a few reasons, I wanted the face stamp, but I also wanted a new and different head cover as well as a metal shaft band. So, off she went. When they sent it back they filled some of the paint free of charge, but it didn't matter to me because I knew it was going to J Rich. Here are the pictures after the Custom Shop.

 

 

 

 

Now that I had it back from Scotty, it was time to send it to The Putter Spa and J Rich. First off, big thanks to J for answering all my questions prior to sending it off. I had some pretty specific questions and vision that he helped me through all the way up to sending it off. And, for this forum's purposes, he was nice enough to send me updates throughout the process so I could give you all a feel for what it is like.

And now after all the scratches, dents and general wear had been cleaned up...

 

 

 

 

 

Now, after I had the face stamp done at Scotty, I decided that I still wanted the bumper stamps removed. Luckily, J let me know his machinist could weld them in, which was awesome because it was already going there to have the tour-deep milling on the insert, the remainder of the face milled normally and a sight dot added to the top line. I got one preview of that. I think J was trying to leave something to the imagination. Mine is obviously on the front left.

 

 

My plan from the beginning was a stealthy theme. A true black out. So, I went with the gloss black jack finish and matte black paint fill throughout. Here are the pictures when I received it back.

 

 

 

 

 

You may remember I wanted a metal shaft ring when I sent to Scotty. I did that because I wanted a shiny black metal ring to contrast a matte black putter shaft. So prior to sending to J, I pulled the stock shaft and removed the shaft ring from it. Then I applied it to the black shaft, had it shafted and added a Scotty Cameron Large Matador grip that I purchased from a fellow WRX'r. Here are the final pictures.

 

 

 

 

 

 

All in all, The Putter Spa was an awesome experience. It took a little less than three weeks to get my putter back and J's communication was awesome the whole time. If you're on the fence, don't be. Send your putter off to J Rich. You won't be disappointed. He made my dream putter come true.

His machinist welded them in. Maybe J will see this thread and be slightly more technical, but that was the terminology used to me. I assume some filling material was used.

Black jack finish looks like a durable polymer or cerakote type finish? The description indicates it requires some additional time to complete so I would assume the latter.
