If had lottery money I’d give 100,000+ for it. That thing is like Excalibur. I watched that 1991 PGA live. Incredible TV. Literally unbelievable performance.

Those guys used to have a show on the "other Golf Channel" I think that channel was called the Back Nine or something like that. It petered out after about 6 months or so. Those guys have that Green Jacket business and they go around paying top dollar for certain golf memorabilia to resell and they also do consignments. Really nice historic stuff but too rich for this old broke redneck's blood

That seems like an incredible deal for such a piece of history. I think it could do far better if more people knew about it. Promotion was non-existent.

Since I'm a collector, I'll chime in with a couple of thoughts on this.

 

1 - there have been lots of John Daly clubs in the market previously, though none of this historical significance.(I own putters and wedges Daly used) Supply and demand -

 

2 - serious collectors might have doubted the authenticity of the Daly club. Most clubs actually used to win major tournaments are in museums, not floating around in the auction market. Generally, the most you can hope to find are clubs used, at some point, by a famous player.

 

3 - there are several golf auction houses, which hold 3 to 4 auctions a year. Clubs by players with more major wins than John Daly are fairly frequently offered. Indeed, the prices for drivers and putters used by famous players, though not to actually win majors, sell in the $10K - $50K range.(Hogan and Palmer used clubs, among others, this year)

 

4 - the prices for antique golf collectibles(hickory era) peaked some years ago, and the market for modern clubs is still building. I saw the same trend in baseball "game-used" equipment develop over decades. In the 1970s you could buy a bat that was used by Babe Ruth for a few hundred dollars, but now $100K won't buy one. Lack of publicity for a golf club is a reflection of a small, and still developing market.

 

Actually, as a long time golf collector, I don't really relish being priced out of new golf collectibles, even tough my collection grows in value. Collecting is largely about "the hunt"!

They even had a certificate of authenticity from the person that Pete Dye gave it to. John gave it to Dye and Dye Gave it to one of his employees that actually PLAYED THE DAMN THING for about a year!!

 

Man I would have loved to have it. Then I wouldn’t went to a senior tour event and asked big John to sign it.... Then into a custom case on the wall with a pic of Daly swinging it at the Tourney. Sweet.

Thanks! I was eye balling that one but it is in pretty rough shape. Since I’m not sure if these can be refinished or not, I would like a cleaner looking club.
