As with any beauty contest, there's no shortage of "pretty" here...but how about some we're forgetting?

1. Bruce Lietzke...I'd never have to practice, and I'd still have a smokin' Shelby GT to take my kids to little league practice.

2. Bobby Jones.....Dancing feet, playing the flute at the top, parallel was just something in the rear view mirror on the way to the end of the backswing, and some nice brandy to fortify the five inches between the ears. Oh, and all those majors to go with it.

3. George Knudson....a piston action that could hit any full swing shot you wanted to see. Incredibly stable through impact. Seriously unknown, seriously good.

4. Arnold Palmer....I'd take that move and that strength over pretty any day. So what if I hit a few in the woods?? The chicks would still dig me.

Fun topic!

Moe Norman.

Not the prettiest swing, but consistent.

None more so!!

When you’ve got Freddie, Ben, Nick and Sir Nick and some unidentified putz standing there in amazement watching ya hit the ball, you’ve got game, lol

Sam and Pete said that he had the most fundamentally sound swing either had ever seen.

Cheers?

Surprised nobody has mentioned Byron Nelson, they named a machine that hits balls after him.

No love for Peter Thompson either, the guy was incredible in his prime. His swing is timeless.

Trevino (or Moe) would probably the most fun day to day if you wanted to live as a hustler. You'd never see either of them coming until your wallet was empty.

Hogan, Knudson, Mickey Wright for pure aesthetics.

Snead and Freddie fall into similar categories. Both moves are longish with incredible rhythm. Interesting how long Snead competed on a high level and how Freddie seems to follow that trajectory.

I was fortunate to be taught the game by a gentleman who'd caddied for both Hogan and Snead, among others. It was his opinion after watching literally thousands of swings by both, in practice and in tournament play, Snead was the finest ball striker he'd ever witnessed followed very closely by Jimmy Demaret, then Hogan. Rain or shine, good days and bad, it wasn't even close. I'll have to say his opinion is good enough for me.

The answer to better golf is work your butt off and learn how to hit it better, farther, and make more putts.

Big fan of Tom Watson's swing. Very simple, athletic.

He was the guy that I emulated growing up.

But if I could have any swing it would be Snead or Rory.

I couldn’t agree more regarding Arnold Palmer and I’ll always remember Sam saying that when Mr. Palmer was first on Tour, Hogan would literally turn away cringing, lol.

I’ve never cared for Hogan as from the stories from Sam & Pete and even Mike Souchak spoke of his behavior publically towards both Sam and to a lesser degree Mr. Palmer, while Hogan was obviously a Champion and one of the All-Time greats, my .03 worth is that he was a jealous insecure napoleanic lil batch and resented all the hoopla thrown at Mr. Palmer and Mike said that he always thought that Hogan was jealous of Sam’s relationship with both the press and how he interacted with the fans and carried himself. Plus, he too stole some of the lime light, especially every April down Augusta way, lol.

Mike overheard Hogan telling a couple of other Players while standing on the line pre-tourney that Palmer, who was well down the line from Hogan cuz he never liked being near him on the line and Hogan chirped that Palmer looked like a guy “who had a cattle prod stuck up his butt” when he “lashed” at the ball,

lol.

Meanwhile, you will not speak to a Teacher, or at least a Teacher who knows a damn thing about the swing, that would not agree that sequentially & fundamentally Palmer’s swing from the 1950’s-60’s was one of THE finest swings, if not THE finest on Tour, especially from the top!!

Sam Snead Same swing at 18 as he had at 80. My thinking is his swing was the best for not stressing any particular part of the body (knees, back, etc.).

My second is one that I am very surprised that hasn't been mentioned, Byron Nelson!

Apologies to dave043 & Scratchtastic, only others that have Nelson. Kind of think.....it was called Iron Byron for a reason.

Mike was a BEAST, lol

And to be gifted with that swing on top of his length, well, he was the first Golfer that I ever referred to as a “freak,” lol.

I never had a “hero” though He and Hale Irwin were the two that I looked up to cuz they were Studs on the football field and took it to the fairways and Mike more so, the Long Ball arena.

He left us wayyyyy to soon and may God Bless him and may he be rippin em and beatin the hell outa Hogan on the fairways and driving ranges above, lol??‍♂️

Cheers?

Sam Snead. Easiest question ever on WRX.

Grace, rhythm, balance, longevity, and power to burn. It had everything you could ever ask for.

Absolutely!!

As you and Patrick noted, Sam had it all and I was talking with Jeremy Miller(JMiller2), a true student of the swing, and he made me think about a few degrees or categories and for me, to make one Player, one swing, it's Sam, always and 4ever.

From his 20's until his first stroke, at the age of 85 friggin years old, he had basically the same swing. Ok, maybe the turn wasn't as full however the swing never changed nor "the move."

That being said, if you asked me for the greatest swing in the history of the game for a period of time, I would say Tiger, circa 2000-2001.

Jack is my favorite Champion and Maddie and I(she did most of the talking cuz Jack can be a tad bullheaded and Madison insinuated that I was not sensitive to this so I basically sat there, drank tea and STFU) talked to him about this and he said that Tiger, circa 2000-2001, probably swung the club UNDER PRESSURE, and remember what mattered to Jack the most in tournament golf(Majors), better than anyone who's ever Played the game, and yea, he put himself at second with his 1963-1968 swing.

The great thing that I got from Jack, and the same can be said about Mr. Palmer and most certainly Sam, as he was always chirping about Golf Pros/Teachers teaching swings that they themselves had absolutely no idea number one, what kind of swing Best stands up to Tour Pressure and number two, if the swing that they were/are teaching could/can stand up to Tour Pressure.

These three Champions didn't give a shat how "pretty" it was, how "perfect" it was or how "pure and precise" that it was/is, only could you reproduce it under pressure.

I don't feel that there was ever a swing greater under pressure than Tiger, circa 2000-2001.

As always, just my .03 worth

Stay well Bro and a Happy Healthy and Prosperous New Year to You and Yours

My Best

RP

Richard, got to go with Snead swing- pure athleticism combined with rhythm. . Keep in mind, Hogan's swing involved a lot of evolution to correct lots of things, I'd also pick from that era- Byron Nelson. Recent past - Modern era- Weiskopf, Knudson, Els, Boros, Justin Rose, Garcia, TWatson, NPrice. Oh and Geiberger.

The question arises here: Would you rather have a pretty swing or a possibly "uglier" but more effective one? I would love to swing like Purtzer but would rather score like Furyk

That’s why I love Sam’s swing. They didn’t get any more Beautiful, he had sick length back in the day and his swing was iced iron(WTF?) under pressure.

So I guess at the end of the day I’d like to swing like Sam and Score like Sam?

Stay well Bro and have a Happy Healthy & Prosperous New Years and Year ahead?

My Best,

Hogan.

Only because if I could swing *exactly* like he did I would get a kick out of Hogan fans claiming that I swing nothing like Hogan.
