Greatest Obscure Golf Club of All Time

La Jolla Knife hybrid. Boy, was that club easy to hit. Preceded a lot of the dual rail designs that are out there. Gave mine to a buddy and he loves it.

I played my freshman year of high school with a Stiletto driver and drove the ball as well as I ever have. I had two of them that were "identical." They looked very different, felt very different, and had very different ball flights (one I loved, one I hated)... The tolerances were clearly top-notch ��

Don’t know how obscure, but definitely not mainstream. Orlimar Hip Ti 420 was fan-freaking-tastic and caught on a little bit well after it was released.

Back in the late 70's, early 80's, I had a set of Keller woods. Laminate, beautiful shape, so solid. I finally went metal with the TM Tour Burner, the one with the little dimples and a Ti shaft. The Keller clubs were somehow connected to Walter Keller, Amy Alcott's teacher.

Adams Insight BTY fairway woods are an oft-forgotten classic. I would still rate them as one of the best fairway woods i've ever owned. When they came out several tour players used them who were not Adams staffers, which was not common.

 

They were basically a "better player's" wet dream. Open faced, small clubhead, and the head was some kind of composite or dual metal if i recall that just felt like pure butter. I mean it's to date still the best feeling 3 wood i've ever owned.

Any Kasco fwy wood that was made out of Super Hyten. KP-99 was a hand made custom order to any spec fwy wood that cost around 1k in 1999. Still keeps up w any fwy wood ever made in terms of distance. Sister club the KC103 had a little rounder sole. The 20* 5 wood is still in my bag all these years later.

Tour Edge blades (circa 1998-2000). Rumor was they were forged by one of the high end Japanese houses (Endo seems to stick in my mind). Beautiful and fun to play.

Are you talking about the ones the said forged on bottom with a number and then the muscle was very clean with the tour edge logo small? I had two sets of those. A very solid feeling blade that was actually quite large. they were bigger than my friends cleveland TA2 irons. Wish i had kept one of the sets of heads, sold them both some years ago before i had really gotten into club building.

Not as old as some of the clubs posted so far, but I gotta say the PRGR Egg series fw has got to be on the list somewhere.

 

If only for looks it earns a spot, but the club just flat out performs as well!

I drained a lot of puts using a Zebra. So much so i have tried to go back and find the "magic" but, it's gone. I never should have let it go.

Probably not obscure by golfwrx standards, but the Cleveland Hibore 2 wood has to be mentioned. I'll also add this interesting wood faced "Clique" putter that I cleaned up a few months ago.

That putter looks very similar to Serge Deschamps's putters from back in the day. He was a member here who did custom putters for a few years. I owned 3 of them and still have them all. That takes me back!

Grooveless wedge from the 90's. I like a square toe wedge and this was about the only option that I could find. Since I didn't play much morning golf or in the rain, wasn't really much of an issue.

I had a Bullet 'hollow point' driver with the middle of the cavity removed design. It hit the ball remarkably well for the day (mid 90s). Also had a Burrows Golf Mac Powersphere driver that was a beast after I put a graf blue in it.

Sorry for no pics but both are long gone. I'm sure most guys over 40 will remember them well.

 

I currently have a Nike Vapor Speed driver so still have a soft spot for funky driver designs.
