I try moving the ball back and end up skulling it, keeps it low!

I know that move!

I perfected it over the weekend :angry22:

he's also the biggest proponent of hinge & hold. he seems to have strayed away from that method.

Played CommonGround tonight, mostly got the round in before we got hit by crazy wind and rain on 17 and 18.

But coincidentally, I was home for lunch today and started watching Golf Channel. They had a playing lesson with Scott McCarron and it was all about the short game. He was a big proponent of chipping with the heel of the club up, upright stance, and playing it like a putt. Which club you use depends on how far it needs to run out. I gave it a go tonight after practicing a little before the round and I gotta say, I really like it. I chipped as well as I had in a long time.

I’m going to practice this technique more over the next few weeks but I gotta say, both conceptually and practically, I see a lot of benefits to chipping this way.

I've used/tried this method before but quite honestly I don't have the touch to be consistent with it. Maybe I'll have to take some time and practice it.

I watched the same episode and thought it was really interesting. Haven't had a chance to give the technique a go, but will try it next time I'm at the range

For sure, I really got a lot out of all the things he was talking about. Some new things I learned, and lots of good reminders of the basics for the short game. Loved his attitude about missing greens as well. For those that haven't seen it, he basically says he doesn't get frustrated by missing greens, he just views it as a chance to show off his short game and have a chance to make a great save. Will definitely try to embrace that attitude,

My wishes came true and I'll be able to play all my new clubs this weekend. These were on my porch last night. Can't wait to get them in play!

Bag is ready to go! And best of all, no more terrible TM headcover

And best of all, I get to play Ravenna Sunday. Super excited for that!

If your men's club ever does a Ryder Cup-style tournament, and you're asked to be captain, absolutely say yes. The draft was an absolute blast, A LOT of trash talking, and we are going to have some amazing matches on Sunday. The first foursome tees off at 6:30am on the Links 9; after hopefully an hour break, then they tee off on the Canyon/Meadows 18 at 9:30am. It will be nice to have 8 foursomes done with 27 holes by 3-ish--and hopefully before the afternoon storms start popping up.

I have not played it but know someone who was a member so asked him. (He moved out state but said he would still be a member if living in the Longmont area).

"What you see is what you get. A few holes dogleg but most are pretty straight. Not overly long from the back tees, short from the next up for Colordao (for what that means...?) Greens and fairways are normally in excellent conditions and might be rolling 9-11 range if normal. Course is flat as a pancake. Some water on a few holes, one with water all down one side. Grass out side of fairways is hit or miss on thickness.. Key to scoring is fairways...just hit approach shots to the middle of the green"

EDIT: reading what he stated... seems like that last sentence is pretty much EVERY course LOL

Basically "Play good golf to avoid playing bad golf."

Damn! That's what I've been doing wrong! I've been doing the opposite.

No idea how I did it, but my Ryder Cup team won today 20.5-11.5. It was tied after alternate shot (Links 9), then we took a pretty sizable lead in Best Ball (Canyons 9) 5.5-2.5, then we went 10-4-2 in head-to-head play (Meadows 9). Maybe I can carry over my awesome drafting skills to my 16-team fantasy football league.

I played horribly on the first 9 (I missed a 1ft tap-in), my partner carried me on the second 9, and then I played okay on the final 9 (won 3&1, my partner got destroyed 4&3). Somehow I shot a 78; I have really no idea how I did it. I also captured a CTP and $90-ish in league money. It was a truly fun day.

Given it's 9-hole match play tournaments, I have proposed that (lifted from my Thursday night beer league) the 8th and 9th holes be worth two points each. I really can't think of any downsides* it except if you're 2-up after 8; however, I think it would create a lot more drama to make up for the downside.

* - I would ask in the main WRX forums, but I would probably get tarred and feathered by the golf purists.

Weirdly, I want to know how that King OS is!

The King OS is money. Easy to hit and long. Same with the 4w. I put a mediocre swing with the 4w yesterday, and it still launched nicely. I really like the wedges too. I simply didn't hit the driver, driving iron, or irons well today. My swing was simply off yesterday, but I recovered pretty well with my approach shots and putting - shot an 83 at Ravenna. Best round of the year which I was pretty happy with seeing as I've never played the course before, and was pretty challenging (slope of 141). Still waiting to crack the elusive 80...

In my league you have to earn the opportunity to be a captain. ;)

I'm glad you guys had a blast, Ryder Cup style play is so much fun. Team golf is just so much more exciting and competitive than boring old stroke play for me personally.

Nice. That’s a the way to spend a bachelor weekend. Where are you playing?

I found out yesterday that my wife is hiking a 14er with some of her friends on Saturday. So I’m playing GVR solo at 7:54 on Saturday. Then playing Sunday morning at 7:30 with two buddies at Hyland Hills. Never played there before, looking forward to seeing a new course.

Cool, our best 3 day total was 90 holes, 18 at Wildhorse then 36 both days at Prairie Club. The last 9 was some of the best golf I've ever done.

I love, love, love both of those places. I'm also getting a big Bandon itch. I really wanna try go in off-season and see if I can get lucky with the weather.

I'm playing friday afternoon in a back tee match at Highlands Ranch. Saturday morning and sunday morning are both casual matches at Highlands Ranch and then playing Saturday afternoon at Arrowhead with a buddy. I feel like my game has been close so looking forward to actually playing a bit and seeing if I can put some things together once. I'll be curious to hear how Hyland Hills is. I essentially don't go north of the downtown line for any of my golf so I'm missing a huge chunk of the Denver golf scene.
