Wondering if anyone here has gotten the Green Valley Ranch individual membership? I am debating it since I work out at the airport and could easily get a round in when I finish sometimes in the early AM. I am pretty tired of playing Kennedy and Aurora Hills (the two closest and cheapest). Green Valley Ranch is about a 25-30min drive. $1800 (equals to 58 Aurora Hills rounds walking) for the Monday-Thursday membership with unlimited golf, range, etc. I have a lot of time off during the week days.

Somebody in the past few years on the CO wrx thread was speaking highly of it, but I can't remember who that was. If you like the course and are in that area, it's a great deal if you will be playing twice a week or more. For most of the Denver area it's too long of a drive thus the reason the price is cheaper than others.

I actually have never played the course. I've done the unlimited range balls and par 3 for $20 a few times and really enjoyed those facilities. I see a lot of people on here highly recommending it though so it must be nice. Some weeks I could definitely play 3-4 times as I have weeks off at a time. Is it easily walkable?

I like it but definitely go play it a time or two before you jump in as a member. I had a friend who complained about lots of weekend events and overall general business but you should be fine with your week day rounds. Sounds like a great deal!

seven dewey, Noodler, and I went to South Broadway CC last night. What a fantastic place. There were a bunch of people just hanging out there, occasionally playing a game in the other bay, which I found a tad odd--not exactly the first place I'd go to get a drink. It really seemed as if the owner blocked off a bay for the whole evening for his friends to use.

If you try to go, definitely try for Bay #2, as the screen on Bay #1 is pretty beat up.

I think it would be pretty cool to have a WRX outing there. Rent out both bays for two hours for 6-8 people. The problem will be trying to book both bays at the same time.

For the peeps up north, or those willing to drive up north, the Sports Stable off McCaslin in Superior has like 5 bays and offers drinks as well. I'd definitely be up for meeting some of you guys over the winter if anyone's willing to come up. Account setup is free online and you can reserve a bay(s). $25/hr for the first guy and $15/hr for additional.

I was invited by a buddy to play a round the weekend of the 17th. We ended up playing Sea Island the same weekend the tour was there so that was pretty cool. There were 4 of us in 2 bays and we had 30-40 minutes to warm up, played the full 18 and had time for almost another 9 holes in a 3 hour window. It was a blast

There is basically zero elevation change, so that part is easy. However, there are some pretty long gaps between holes which is annoying.

I have played out there a number of times and always felt the course was in good shape and the staff appreciated me as a guest. For me at a high single HC, I find some of the approach shots pretty tough, as in anything 5 yds off the green is dead (lost) and the greens typically roll really fast IMO. I've never walked it I don't think but I can see that it could make for a long day. I'd recommend the course though.

I've got a buddy that teaches/gives lessons up at the Sports Stable. I'm definitely going to make it up there from time to time this weekend. We'll have to meet up.

Also, I haven't golfed in a month, because I got back into skateboarding again. It's free (until I snap a deck), and I've been trying to save as much money as possible. Although, I can't get 4-5 hours worth of fun in with that. I'm sore and beat after 2. Especially since I've never been good at flat ground tricks or grinds/slides. Which means at my age, I'm throwing myself down stairs and gaps. Thank goodness I have a decent job with good health insurance, might end up using it in 2019.

Maybe instead of golf we all get together and watch Gleaming the Cube. The Alamo Drafthouse did one of those movie and a beer flight things a couple years ago and we took the wives and they couldn’t stop laughing. I didn’t have the heart to tell them it wasn’t a comedy

Likely me. It's been my home course for four years now, and I've been a member of men's club out there for a few years now. It's a great course and super easy to walk - there is really only one long walk between holes and that is at the turn. I don't have a membership, but know a few people that do. Honestly, you can't beat the cost of the membership from a value perspective. I'd argue it's the best membership out there. The course is typically in fantastic shape. The only issue I have is they're understaffed, so a marshal doesn't exist there which can lead to 5hr rounds on the weekend if you're not teeing off early.

I will likely be moving courses though, which really has nothing to do with you if you purchase a membership. They continue to jack up prices, particularly on the Golf Expo deal, which will now be $75 (was $55 last year and $50 the year before). And the green fees are $90+ on the weekends, and I don't think the course is deserving of that with so many other great courses around here for significantly less. My big issue for me though is Men's Club is terribly ran now, which is a huge disappointment sine there are some great people who play out there.

If you are just looking to play after work during the week, or hit up the range (which has a great facility), you can't beat it.

Where have you been skating? I work right downtown and pass the 20th St park every day on the bus.

Wheel Park in Aurora.

Railbender down in Paker (closest to where I work, plus lights at night).

Gateway Park in Commerce City.

Been switching it up though. I've taken like a 5 year break with it, but have a friend who's been pretty steadily going nonstop. So I just hop in his car and go wherever he takes me.

Yeah I bought the expo deal last year for GVR but will not be doing so this year. I think it’s a good course and all but the pace was miserable. It was a weekend yes, but the last 6 holes took over two hours to play. There were just groups stacked on top of each other. When you got to the tee there was another group waiting on it.

Golf has a serious pace of problem in general, but courses who fail to address it will be getting a lot less of my money. If Troon can do it, then anyone can. If I won the lottery I would want to be a marshal for free somewhere just to get the satisfaction of telling people to quit backing up the course.

Play really starts to bog down on the 15th hole out there because that finishing stretch is tough. They need to figure something out for sure.

One time before a men's club event, I asked one of the pros if they were going to have anyone out there keeping pace of play since we weren't teeing off until 11ish (don't get me started), and he told me he was more worried about us keeping pace than anyone else. I almost blew a gasket, then the round of course took 5hrs. F'n dbag. Another reason I'm likely leaving.

And early in the season, I used the pro shop button on the cart a couple times to report ridiculously slow play with no resolution, then decided to call the shop and was told they received my alerts but had no way to rectify the situation because they were understaffed. So dumb. If you're going to continue to jack up prices, you better figure out a way to maintain pace of play rather than buying f'n new bunker rakes.

Just typing this makes my blood boil....and yet I made a tee time there earlier today for next weekend for some reason lol. Part of it is I need to use my pro shop credit.

Hey All,

So I need to pull the trigger on some new wedges, but would like some opinions.

I really like the MD4 and RTX4 wedges. I'm looking to buy them on Golf Galaxy's 25% off sale on Dec. 13th.

Any thoughts on either of them, pros/cons? I hit both and got similar spin and distance on them.

I'll probably go +0.25 - 0.5" for Length, 2* up and put S300 shafts in them to match my other irons.

Planning to call D'lance to see if they have the various bounces in the heads to try and do a fitting before I go, but like to get some info from folks not trying to sell me something :)

Thanks for the help,

GB

I have the RTX4s and really like them. 50-54 mids and 60 low. They have very little offset which looks really good to my eye.

Man I played at Collindale today in Fort Collins (play here a lot) and on #2 my 100 yard approach shot landed right next to the pin only to bounce 15 feet up in the air! I am from soCal and this is my first winter out here, man it was shocking seeing the ball bounce like it was concrete. Added another layer of difficulty but it was fun.

No snow on the ground there then? I’m hoping to maybe play in Greeley tomorrow, but the Mrs said it was snowing there this morning. Hoping it’s just a dusting.

Had this happen at Red Hawk Ridge last year. Hilarious way to play golf, especially when you're not expecting it.

I'll post a few photos and more thoughts tonight, but the quick description of golf in the UK is that it's amazing. I'm even more in love with links golf than I was before.

You have to take a trip over there to play if you haven't already. I'd love to do a huge UK trip again for only golf. Expensive, but worth it.

So I started a new job this week. I actually had to decide between two job offers. I decided to go with a small healthcare analytics startup in DTC. Almost everyone in the office golfs and skis. Time will tell, but I'm pretty sure I made the right decision.

True links golf with firm and fast conditions is the most fun golf to play and golf trips to Ireland can be cheaper than a prime season Bandon or Streamsong trip.

So I started a new job this week. I actually had to decide between two job offers. I decided to go with a small healthcare analytics startup in DTC. Almost everyone in the office golfs and skis. Time will tell, but I'm pretty sure I made the right decision.

Congrats. Nice. Seems like everywhere I've been the last 15 years nobody under 40 golfs anymore except some of the sales guys.

Congratulations are in order here! I hope it works out well.

It was incredible. Summer golf there ain't cheap, but if you're willing to deal with 40-45 degree temps and less daylight, deals can be had in winter. I played Silloth on Solway (which I'll add is probably a sleeper pick for one of the top 10 courses in mainland UK) for about $40. Place was amazing. Shame the winds were blowing constantly at about 45mph+.

I see D'Lance is doing a Black Friday half off special on club fittings. Anyone have any comments comparing D'Lance and Club Champion? I want to do an iron fitting but honestly don't think I would order clubs for either fitter to "build." It seems unnecessary given that a lot of the iron sets now give you a ton of shaft options and custom lost/lie adjustments at no upcharge. I do like that the D'Lance does the "lifetime" fitting.

So I had my fitting over at D'Lance today. It was much more technical and numbers based.

The fitting at CC was more here's a baseline head and a shaft combo, hit it. Ok now lets try this shaft, hit it. Repeat until you get a shaft you like. Ok now here's a different head, hit it. Repeat until you find one you like. There's the combo that's best for you.

D'Lance the first thing he did was ask a bunch of questions then measured my clubs. Checked the frequency to get the stiffness (which was surprising but we'll get back to that later), check the swing weight, check the loft/lie. First thing I hit was my driver to get the baseline numbers. he put those numbers into his program and got suggestions on what shafts to try. Then we tried different shafts with my head. Once we got something that worked we moved onto my 6i. Same thing, measured and hit my 6i to get a baseline and plugged the numbers in. I tried them with some different heads and then with my same club. We dialed it in to what was a lot better for me.

So at CC I got fitted into some lightweight shafts, Nippon 850GH in stiff flex with AP1s. So I ordered those from Flations with the specs I needed. Dude checked them today and they were basically a ladies flex. He said that sometimes shaft makers when they are making a lightweight shaft they can make them a much lighter flex on accident.

I liked the process, but didn't hit as many different combos as I would have liked. I plan on going back in the spring and doing a driver fitting by itself to try different heads. Especially after the new stuff comes out. I'll definitely be getting new stiffer heavier iron shafts soon though.
