2018 could be one of the most fun years in PGA Tour history

I realize the wraparound season has already started, but 2018 could really be one of the most fun years on record.

 

First of all, I thought last year was a great year, and that was with Rory and Day noticeably absent most of the year. DJ was also off for a period as well. This year we could see all three come back healthy and play top notch golf. On top of that, Justin Thomas and to a lesser extent Jon Rahm are new young stars that will be fully on everyone's radar.

 

In addition, we'll have Spieth, Rory, and yes, still Phil chasing the career grand slam. The US Open will be at Shinnecock and the Open at Carnoustie, two outstanding venues. And of course Augusta will have Sergio defending his title. Rickie Fowler will also continue to look for his first major after a great tournament at the Hero.

 

On top of that, and I am a bit more confident this compared to other years, we may see Tiger play a number of events. Some of his shots at the Hero were incredible, and give me more hope this than in other years that he will at least be somewhat competitive on Tour, which always makes things more interesting. But you never know with him.

 

To top it off, the Ryder Cup should be incredible. The U.S. team has had a great run lately, and could add Tiger Woods if he is playing with any kind of form in late summer.

 

But the European team should add a lot of firepower compared to the last go-around. Rahm should be on the squad this year, and I believe Paul Casey may be eligible as well. You could have the European team roll out the likes of Rory, Rose, Sergio, Stenson, Rahm, Casey, Hatton, Fleetwood, Pieters, Noren, Cabrera Bello, Fitzpatrick, or some combination of that give or take a few players. That's a loaded team, against a potential US Squad of something like DJ, Thomas, Spieth, Reed, Koepka, Kuchar, Fowler, Mickelson, Tiger, etc.

 

I'm hoping this year is the perfect combination of the old guard (Phil, Tiger, Sergio, Stenson, Kuchar etc) the middle guys (DJ, Day, Rory, Rose, Fowler) and younger guys (Spieth, JT, Rahm, Reed, Koepka, etc) all playing well in the same year. It could make for an historic season. And of course there is far more talent on Tour than I'm even mentioning here. But this has a chance to go down as one of the most entertaining seasons in Tour history.
