I'm not a marketing genius but I'm sure Xander with a Callaway hat on holding a trophy outweighs the golf nerds on GolfWRX knowing he's playing Taylormade stuff . Because if we're being honest the general golfing public probally doesn't look that close at what irons he's playing .( or else companies would have all these guys playing shovels ! )

So Im a golf nerd because I asked? It is a "golf equipment" thread dude.

Not really a big deal...happens all the time with every company when someone switches. Takes time.

Looks even worse when you are signed by Cally and are still playing TM though...

Callaway could force him to play Callaway stuff but they don't do that. Harry explained on twitter that until he gets dialed in and back ups are made they don't want a player switching over. Seems logical and like the right thing to do.

Yeah he responded to me on Twitter whn I asked. I just think its odd that he wasnt trying clubs to get dialed in before the switch. What Sergio did he was playing Callaway wedges months ago.

You know the timing of the announcement for Xander was kind of delayed and I wonder how much time he really had to work on his new equipment. Sergio I believe is been testing for months. Maybe Xander only weeks.

Only a guess on my part

I think you are spot on Ed. His switch did kind of come out of left field. He had just won an event recently with a full TM bag and then announced the switch within a few weeks. Sergio had been testing Callaway clubs in actual tournaments for at least 2 tournaments (and a number of practice rounds) when his switch was made official. I'm sure it takes these guys time to get acclimated to new clubs, and the last thing Callaway should want to do is rush him into new clubs that he isn't comfortable with. What is worse for them: WRXers talking about him still having a few TM clubs in the bag for a few weeks, or him putting all 14 Callaway clubs in the bag and then finishing DFL or missing a couple of cuts? I bet they are ok with an adjustment period.

Excuse me? You're sponsored by Callaway to use their irons and you're using TM irons and that's not a big deal.

I can assure you this will not go down well and will not last long.

Callaway would much rather you play bad with their equipment until you get used to it rather than play well with another companies equipment while they are paying you to play theirs.

I agree. We haven’t heard too much about it but isn’t Wesley Bryan not using the new Callaway Rogue because he can’t get along with it? That’s worse press than Xander still playing TM clubs. I don’t know why Wesley doesn’t just use his old Epic driver. It wouldn’t be that big a deal. But to say he’s not going to use a driver at all seems weird.

No different than Spieth Titleists biggest player playing a 910D until a couple years ago and think he still plays a 915. Think Scott still plays a 915 too.

Dude, wrong. Let's not forget, Xander's marketability grew like crazy the last 5 months of the year...so it's not like he was planning this switch for months and months. And you think Callaway would prefer for a player they sign to play poorly with their equip til they get comfortable with it? Yeah buddy, you're delusional. Good news is we can now safely add you to the list of people who post that have absolutely no clue what they're talking about.

i have never understood the pro player changes equipment then tanks things. i feel like they were probably going to tank anyway. Most of them change equipment every year to the new offering of whoever sponsors them. why would changing brands matter?????
