Brands You Won't Play

For a long time, I wouldn't play Callaway. I didn't like it when they were building and marketing a non-conforming driver. Won't play PXG because they are overpriced and I think Bob Parsons is a jerk.

I have a UDI in the bag and some SLDRs for friends to play, but I will never buy another TM club. Also PXG, self explanatory. There are better options at a better price.

I won't play Titleist. They make most their revenue from ball sales and spend heavily to create a tour association and make people think their balls are better than others, which they aren't. Throw in Cameron, with $3000 009 putters that are clones of the Scottsdale Anser and that seals the deal for me.

 

The prices on the Tour Cameron's are obscene. You could get a beautiful, highly customized Bettinardi/Machine/Byron Morgan/etc for half the price of a run-of-the-mill Circle T. I don't know which I blame more, the manufacturer or the consumers that will pay those extortionate prices. Titleist just rubs me the wrong way for some reason...

 

And I thought people were mad at PXG! LOL!

PXG... C'mon man! Get over yourself Bob. They are good clubs, but they aren't THAT good.

 

Really want them to sign Tiger to a contract. Not for clubs but for ads. I mean sure toss clubs at him too but c'mon how hilarious would it be if PXG did an ad with him and at the end, Bob looks at Tiger and says "what do you think about them?" and he just looks dead in the camera and holds his tiger head cover and says "They'rrrrreeeee GGGGRRRRRREEEAAAT!"

Callaway. Nothing about their clubs makes me want to even hit them. Although when I do,I'm invariably disappointed. Drivers in particular, hate having to cut the shaft down to a game able length.

At one time I used a lot of TM stuff but the constant product releases and the marketing around them really turned me off. I could hit the m4 (or whatever) much better than what’s in my bag and I wouldn’t buy it. Honestly I wouldn’t ever even know because I wouldn’t even try it. Callaway is trying hard to get me to do the same with them. I flip flop on titleist. Sometimes I think they are arrogant and treat their customer like they are doing them a favor selling them clubs. But I honestly really like their clubs when I try them. I like the new ap2 a lot, the 716cb was amazing, and I do currently have their wedges in my bag. I liked them more than anything else I tried. I’m the opposite with ping. I really want to love the clubs but I just never seem to get on with them.

TM and PXG aren't for me.

 

PXG for all the reasons specified.

 

TM because way back I tried their wedges for a year and just couldn't take to them for some reason; and since then the marketing approach has just put me off.

If I'm being honest with myself, I could put a bag together from any OEM and be fine with it.

 

Brands that I typically don't look at are Callaway and TM. Brands that appeal to me are Titleist, Mizuno, and PING.

Nike & PING. although i'm dressed head to toe in Nike. their gear just doesn't do it for me. I've always looked at their clubs to be cheap looking but do like their apparel. PING clubs just look ugly to me.

i dont think there is anything that i wouldnt play. right now my bag is a srixon driver, nike fairway wood mizuno irons, cleveland wedges and a ping putter. i have a second bag that i am putting together that would have the same woods, macgregor 1025m irons i am refinishing and callaway wedges. and a ping putter.

 

so no. no bias that i am currently aware of other than what my wallet will permit.

What exactly does that mean? I get when people say that they are ugly (acquired taste), but what's not to like about a family business that for many years where all 100% made in the USA (now I will say that their "pricing restriction policies on trade-in purchases and such, yes, does crease me).

Pretty much this^^^^.....but have to say, even though they are now out of the biz, I could not bring myself to play anything Nike (dabbled a bit w their wedges).

I’ve played all the brands and this point loved and hated many a club.

 

Mostly a Ping fanboy although I’m full Cobra at the moment.

 

The only clubs I avoid now are Titleist and that’s because there was a group of 4-5 poseur jerkoffs at my club who played full bags and were douchers. Looked down on anything that wasn’t the latest Titleist club or putter. All the other balls were junk anyone who didn’t use a Pro V was a chop etc.

 

A segment of crappy fans wrecked the brand for me haha. Didn’t want to be lumped in with those guys by mistake. Titleist MB players who couldn’t break 80 on their best day.

I never played Taylormade I hated everything they put out. but a friend gave me the 16 M1 and its not that i really love it but i got the shaft i needed for it and i'm hitting it really well so its in the bag. I will never play PXG 1. i can't afford the stuff 2. its not better then anything else 3. Everyone i met that played the stuff was a total jackass.

I like that they're a privately owned company, but their business and religious beliefs are too intertwined for me. Just a preference; to each their own. Not trying to start a discussion about faith, so I hope this post doesn't get deleted.
