Fan-BOI!

Diesel dog! You guys like the Pats up there?

If you mean Maine I general, you’d be interested to know that Maine is awash with G-men men.

Most people who don’t pay attention think it’s gonna be a beating. Everyone else knows better. The way the eagles put the ball downfield so easily is kind of nerve racking.

Good, knew we on the same page. Just wanna see some nice (clean) pops on Brady, like the Giants did when they sent the Pats home.

Giselle be like,

Dont hit my Tom!

Rofl.

Cheers. Winter sucks but these fat bone in pork chops Im gonna make (and a little red vino) will help ; )

I am from the south. My father is a preacher, (well was) Southern Baptist even. Prejudice was not allowed in our household. I started playing golf as a thing to make money. Take clients out pay for golf, buy them some stuff. Get purchase orders for big house packages. I worked on commission for Lowe's selling to contractors for almost 25 years. I made pretty darn good money. And had a lot of fun doing it. I started playing full time in 1985, by that i mean every Saturday and Sunday after church. And would go hit balls at a driving range just down the road from work. I just liked the fact that I could knock the crap out of it. I had played baseball since I was 9 and hitting your driver a long way felt like hitting a homerun. You could basically hit 14 homeruns every time you played, vs hitting one every couple of games in baseball. On average.

Golf was a quiet sport, people were polite. Sure there were slow players, and people that got mad. I got a brand new ping putter once when I saw a guy throw it in a pond. I went back about dark and waded around up to my neck in water till i found it with a bare foot.

Then Tiger Woods came along. And by the way, I distinctly remember watching Tiger Woods as a 2 year old or thereabout on Mike Douglas show in the 1970s. So I had heard of him a long time before he won the Masters. What happen, and remember. I am from KY and lived in South Carolina most of the 1980s. And worked in WV twice for about a year and half both times. All to sell building materials to big contractors and commercial projects. My specialty was churches. Wonder why?

So not long after the Masters. within 6 weeks at the very most. People started showing up at all the golf courses. Ky is know for Semi-private clubs. And for some kinda ritzy ones. That keep the prices high to keep the riff raff out. So you would see these guys, with clubs that you can buy at Pawn shops. Or play it again sports. They would have used shoes, and of course lots of BEER.

So people starting hollering 3 fairways over, if they saw there buddy they would stand on the cart and yell at the top of their lungs. I was playing in a match play club championship tourney. I had gave 14 strokes to a guy. We were all even with 3 holes left to play. I had a chip to get on in three and the guy was laying 4 on the edge of the green. I had to just chip and make a par, him two putt and I was up on the match. One of these guys pulled up in a cart just as i started to chip, and hollered at a buddy. HEY WAIT UP FOR ME. My chip went flying sideways hit a tree, bounced into some crap and I wind up making 6. Lost the hole. I was totally pissed off. I am a big man, 6"3 and I wear 3xl tall shirts. Like a lineman in the NFL.

I lost the match, and then well i went and said a few things about manners and proper etiquette. And i wasnt very nice about it. As a matter of fact I was an a******. The guy that I was playing with, was shocked. He said I didnt know you had that kind of language in you. About a year later, I saw these same three guys at a golf course in the next county. Lo and behold. They were wearing decent golf clothes. The beer cooler was gone. They had a lot better clubs. I went to them in the parking lot and apologized. They told me, that it had been a wake up call for them. That while they still thought i was an a******. That they understood.

But hear is the thing. Most of the golfers on here, say, I admired him (tiger) when i was in school. The older you get, the more things change. One day all you folks that are born after 1981, or after 2002. Will have children and grandchildren. And will just as feed up with the crap that goes on as us older people are now. I have been a member here for 12 years. I actually joined in 2005 but had a computer that got a bad virus and did not get another one for a year or so. My original membership didnt work after a while.

Golf tourneys in the 70s and the 80s and early 90s were much different. I was a CHI CHI fan. The showed the leaders back then, not Tiger Woods in 18th place every shot. I mean come on, I want to see the leaders, not some guy in the middle of the pack because he endorses some kind of crap. I HATE Commercials, hate endorsements. And I play clubs, because I like that club, and to hell with what anyone else thinks.

Did anyone ever think that the reason golf is going down hill is because Golf Channel, CBS, NBS, ABC, all shove Tiger Woods down our throats. I hate the Frigging Patriots too because they have hints of cheating and because they have been in the Super Bowl so many times. Not Counting the murderer they hired to play with them.

Sorry one guy that is on the down hill slide to 60. That started out playing Ram laminated Driver 3 and 5 wood, and a set of Ram irons that came from Sears. I play old school stuff, because, I think the new stuff has built in crutches in them. I am a big Titleist fan, but the Maxfli Balata Hi trac was the finest ball ever made.

I have watched Tiger Woods play great golf. But his personal life is more an example of a narcissistic person that anything else. Surprise everyone, well every male on this site puts his pants on the same way that I do every morning. NO one is better than anyone else. You might play golf better, drive a faster or prettier car. I drive a truck. But when it comes down to the end, when we stand to meet our maker. Then everyone is the same. No matter what.

It’s humorous how small minded individuals pay any mind to “celebrity personalities”. You’re begging people to lie to you. Everyone needs to ignore that bs and focus on what’s important - how they play the game. Every other aspect you hear through the media is too easily staged.

In that respect, NO ONE has remotely approached Tiger. Nicklaus, Hogan, Jones might be close to him as players (they’re not), but whatever you want to believe is fine. Tiger Woods is astronomically more entertaining than any golfer who’s ever lived. To deny this and refuse yourself the crazy personal enjoyment of watching this dude (without any negative filter) is just sad.

Chi Chi?? Hahahaha, oh my my. Yup, he was about .002% as exciting as TW.

—> And that’s why the networks cover him like this!!!

It’s called Free Market Economics, supply and demand! Ever heard of it?? Nothing in golf (and possibly nothing in all of sport) has approached this level of excellence, and TV folks are just showing the people what they want to see.

Sorry if you’re not getting enough Boo Weekley coverage, but that’s you’re problem. And it IS a problem, you’re depriving yourself bc of some ridiculous preconceived notion.

Tiger engaged the general public unlike any player before or since - by a huge margin! I’m sorry you didn’t care for the effect this had on your golfing experience [btw, if you shanked a short chip into a tree against some hack, you’re not very good....I’m a 3 handicap and have been as low as +1, you could sound an air horn in my backswing and it wouldn’t distract me that badly...so, you need to realize that was a tale about your mental weakness and has zero to do with the effect TW had on the game’s etiquette].

Side note: the Patriots are straight up amazing in every way. And EVERY single halfwit who hates on them would trade their coach and qb for theirs in a heartbeat [spygate = every team was doing it - it’s less of an infraction than stealing signs in baseball - a coordinator is giving signs in front of 50,000 people, the patriots filmed it in case they were idiotic enough to use those same signals in their next matchup....Deflategate = a nonevent, too moronic to even discuss in this forum BUT if you read the wells report, it’s all there, the balls were never under inflated - it just appeared so bc of the cold weather when they were measured at halftime, NFL Personnel were so frighteningly dumb they couldn’t fathom simple scientific facts, and then they were too egotistical to admit that once it was clear].

As for Tiger’s personal life, this is a glaring example of the immaturity of our culture in the U.S. It would have been passing tabloid fodder in Europe (as it should be!!). You’re talking about a very good looking, charismatic guy who was the biggest athlete in the world, NO ONE can understand what it was like having chicks throw themselves at him 24/7. I can safely say, were I confronted with anything close to that temptation, there’s roughly a 100% chance I would be having more sex than anyone in history. The only mistake the man made was getting married too young. It’s hypocrisy at its highest (and to. E honest, possibly a touch of bigotry) that everyone lambastes Tiger while the same people pretty much all cream their pants when it comes to Arnold Palmer - and it’s fairly common knowledge that Arnie was tapping everything in site when he was on tour.

Great, the ultra Tiger apologist troll. Should be an interesting 2018 on here.

Quoted the key part - hint. ;-)

What I’m trying to say is that the entire concept of being “apologist” is not real.

No one knows who the hell these people are. It’s just stupid to pretend otherwise.

Would you accuse someone of being a Santa Claus apologist?

It’s the same thing and if you feel otherwise, you’re mistaken.

Tiger Woods doesn’t tip. Not a fan.

Who cares? For example

I

Was a busboy!

I wasnt very good at it. I figured,

Hey, this butter on the table, nobody ate it. So, why not put it on this new table?

The owner actually thought this wasnt a bad idea. This guy, fuhgedaboudit, he was like 5'10, 340. Used to eat lobster tails like potato chips. Man, there was this waitress, red head. There was this walk in freezer. Oooof.

What were we talkin bout again?

I think it is more politically correct to start with a positive so I will do just that. Tiger WAS one of the most fierce competitors, one of the most determined, and one of the mentally strongest to ever play the game of golf. Having said that, from the first time I heard him and his father speak I began rooting against him. Their arrogance overshadowed the immense amount of hard work and preparation they had both made to make Tiger one of the best golfers of all time. Often when I heard him speak after even amazing rounds, my perception was that he felt he was more important than the game. When watching him dominate, the way he would drop the F bomb without regard to his audience...without regard to the young that were watching and wanting so bad to emulate that man making all those birdies showed a real lack of respect for the game, a lack of respect for his audience. But, I was always amazed that it was accepted just because he was winning. He built a game and he built a persona from the colors he wore to the fist pumps displayed all designed very carefully to win and intimidate. So, we all watched him win but some of us just don't think he is a winner. Anyone who wins enough is going to have fans and I understand that. For me, in the beginning he was a golfer who could destroy the field but could not hide his arrogance. Then he became a man who made a lot of mistakes inside and outside of the sport but managed to retain all of that same arrogance.

Post after post I will continue to not be a fan while some here will continue to sing his praises. Maybe that does make him still relevant. I guess it interest both sides or we would not be here. Sometimes I think if I hear one more time about the four or five more majors he is going win I am going to need some Zofran! But I do enjoy thinking that maybe the next time Tiger makes a run on the record book it will have to be on the Champions tour....but he will probably think he is too good to ever tee it up there :-)

Pro golfers are entertainers- just like actors, musicians, comedians. Lots of them are jerks, but so are lots of people in all walks of life. The only difference is entertainers have high visibility and high incomes which leaves them susceptible to criticism. Nobody starts on-line forum threads about the jerk behind the counter at CVS.

I can't separate Tiger the golfer from Tiger the man. I used to love him but now I find him despicable.

man... i wanted to say something about all the people who are so offended by Tigers personal issues...But the Daffy Duck /Buggs analogy pretty much sums it up... Oh to have grown up in a sheltered environment so that i may be able to ride atop the high horse of morality.. how sweet it must be.

I don't care about his personal issues; I didn't care for him before the cheating surfaced. When stories circulated about him ignoring autograph seeking kids, stiffing people on tips (when he's made hundreds of millions of dollars), his cursing and pouting on the golf course were enough to turn me off. Tiger just struck me as something of a jerk.

I felt like his public/media persona was phony and his personal issues only confirmed that.

Hate to break it to you but a lot of golfers cuss, a lot of golfers cheat on their wives, a lot of golfers get drunk, most golfers are arrogant and all are human. The guys in Tigers era going forward deal with constant scrutiny with cellphones and internet coverage. I doubt most athletes from the past would have the squeaky clean reputations they do if they had to be in the spotlight today.

Tiger moved the needle of that there is no question.

So did Arnie so did Jack and in Europe so did Seve, Langer Faldo but no one quite like Tiger, theres a lot of reasons why hes had such a big impact the time he came along, the ways in which he was different to those that came before him however you cannot take away that he moved the needle the interest int he sport like him or loathe him that is a fact.

For me he isnt the greatest yet, but he also hasnt retired yet. A difference I always draw is look at the longevity of Nicklaus the 86 Masters; if Tiger returns to fitness and begins to play well and challenge then he may still be able to lose the gap. He can certainly hit the shots till look at last night the iron shot into 16 was class, world class.

I may not be his biggest fan but his private life should be private and Ill be honest I have no idea what golf would look like today without him.

At the end of the day a fit and healthy Tiger challenging is only good for the game

Dang, that is throwing a lot men under the bus! I will give more credit until there is evidence shown of this wide spread cheating and drinking and the use of profanity as referenced describing Tiger and his F bomb blast going off in the microphones and ears of anyone around him! You speak as authoritative in your statements. Have you hung out with a large percentage of the tour players and thus know their drinking habits? Have you seen a large number of tour players cheating on their families? If not, your speculation is not only worthless but insulting to the fans and the players. Why try to justify one man by bringing down others?? If your purpose is to service Mr. Woods, make your offer in private and spare us the ugly picture!

I have Tiger Fatigue Syndrome. Why do the camera and commentators have to follow every step he takes? I respect the enormous talent, the mental approach to and unrelenting desire to be the best. I get all that. The issue I have always had is that when Tiger plays, everyone else, no matter how well they are playing takes a back seat. I have never liked seeing anyone put on a pedestal, because there is only one way to go.

to be fair, I have Alabama Fatigue Syndrome, Aaron Rodgers Fatigue Syndrome and Duke basketball Fatigue Syndrome. So there is that.

Please keep this civil and within the rules as this topic has the potential to turn ugly. I apologize if this topic has been discussed, but even with so many threads (admittedly didn't search too hard) on Tiger, I wasn't able to really find thoughts on why you love or dislike Tiger.

I am genuinely interested why you are or why you aren't a fan of Tiger - the golfer.

I've read several articles leading up to the Farmers that have discussed how much spotlight Tiger gets and how it overshadows accomplishments and/or potential accomplishments (such as Jon Rahm potentially reaching #1). Another article I read (being discussed here: http://www.golfwrx.c...gst-yourselves/), the author described TFS or Tiger Fatigue Syndrome - basically where you are fatigued by Tiger dominated news

Do you have Tiger fatigue? Is there something else about Tiger himself you dislike that carries over to his profession and makes you root against him?

Perhaps you are like me and want Tiger to succeed, to dominate again. To be the undisputed greatest of all time.

I love that he's such a polarizing figure and that he has so much passion when that big putt goes in the cup. I enjoyed the story of his rise and am anxious to see the results of his comeback. I'd really like to hear your thoughts.

TLDR: Why do you like or dislike Tiger

edit: added poll

Tiger Woods is the greatest golfer who ever shat between a pair of spikes. His mental toughness and ability to cause meltdowns in his competitors is unprecedented in the game of golf. No other golfer has ever dominated the sport like he did. And no one else ever will.

You never heard of Jack Nicklaus?
