I’m really thinking Northview should have gone semi-private, but there’s probably  too many corporate events that would get in the way of any potential membership. I think that was the original plan when they opened in the 90s.

Yes I believe the original plan was going to be like Swaneset.  The Ridge Course would be private and the Canel course would be public.

I would agree with this list, and I'd add Redwoods.  Fraserview might actually be my favorite course in the area to be honest...there's just something about it that always leads to a fun round of golf.  It's not the shiniest or the prettiest or the toughest or anything, but it has a lot of "half-par" holes and isn't trying to kick your teeth in.

Yeah. I live in the downtown Langley area so Meadow/Pitt are 20 minutes away in no traffic, but 45 minutes in mind numbing traffic most of the day.  Beach is 45 minutes, Semi is 30 min plus a border crossing - but neither would ever be "on my way" to or from work.  One advantage to Meadow Gardens is that I've heard they are very junior friendly and my little guy loves to play, but the course itself is probably my least favorite of the bunch.  I've also heard concerns of too many members/not enough "high demand" tee times there.

As I type this out, I think the best solution is to just move haha!

Beach is super junior friendly. My Kids have been members there for years. $750 for non-members kids- but they get events with free food etc on top of great access. I am told it is $500 for members kids. Late notice but Beach Grove has a prospective member day June 12th. Free Round of golf is included.

Before my round today I ran into a member of my club who lives by Northlands. I asked him if he remembered how rough/tough it was when it opened. He replied “back then if you were an inch off the fairway you might lose yourself”. 😀

I'm currently looking at private options in the lower mainland, what is the current initiation fee at BG?

Northland opened in 1997, not 1987.

Yes, back in the early days hitting it into some tree lines and your ball was hard to find. They have since culled or cleaned up some tree lined areas to make balls easier to find (e.g.) slicing your ball into the trees on the right).

I know a guy who joined last year for $25,000 and was on the wait list until April of this year, now has full playing privleges.

Call the pro shop to confirm.

Years ago I think the initiation was as low as $8000?

They also had/have a cheaper initiation/monthly dues for a twilight membership. A unique option for a private club.

This was true of Boundary Shores (Bob Ahoy, owner) when it opened back around 2000, tall grass/fescue just off the fairways.

Now, Kings Links by the Sea (Brad Newell, owner).

I don't consider them "must plays"

But

IMO. Top 3 Interior

Sagebrush

Predator Ridge (Ridge course)

Talking Rock (pre-fire)

Many love Tobiano, but I'm not a fan.

FWIW Salmon Arm is a really good course.

1) Tobiano (I freaking love it, but too much wind will ruin it for you)

2) Predator Ridge (Ridge course is the FULL package)

3) Sagebrush (be prepared to hate golf afterwards)

But I'd add that others like Salmon Arm and Vernon GCC are absolutely fantastic courses as well.  Would love to play either of those every week.

My hot take is that Tower Ranch sucks.  Weird that I love Tobiano and hate Tower,  but it is what it is I guess.

Sagebrush is on my list of must plays this year

My buddy was trying to get me to play tobiano yesterday

Pred is beautiful.. I was up using the range there yesterday.. love the practice facility

They have top tracer there now.. that was fun to play with.. I've never used it before

I can see how that could really help... I was doing some ladder drills yesterday

50 -60-70-80 yard swings...

Glad your back got better and you were able to practice with the driver.😀

Unfortunately I found out today I'll probably be out 6-8 more weeks from a knee injury during a tee shot in early April.

An upside is that it looks like no meniscus tear. Another is I almost tested a demo iron the day before the injury. If I had done so and had ordered the set I really would have been po'd looking at new and shiny in the closet. Looks like the golf budget is mostly going to physio etc. for a bit longer, but hopefully I'll come out of it stronger and healthier overall.

Meantime I'll drool over the golf escapades of you folks.

Sorry not BC golf related but just booked my trip to Ireland to replace my annual Bandon trip.  Really last minute so only two courses booked (Cashen - Old Course fully booked up) and Old Head.  We have planned the trip around those two courses and will infill with local courses.

I know this may be blasphemy to some but I only had two bucket list courses, St. Andrews Old Course and Pebble Beach, and I am very fortunate to have played both.  Therefore, I don't really care about getting onto the big name courses in Ireland.  I am perfectly happy playing the lesser named courses and especially given the fact this is a really last minute trip.  I am there to soak in the atmosphere and I feel playing the local courses will give me more of that rather than being gorged by the big name courses.

For me, I got to play the St. Andrews Old Course and everything else will never match that.  BTW - honestly Pebble Beach was a real big disappointment for me.  I am glad I got to play it but I have zero desires to play it again.  St. Andrews Old Course, I would jump at the chance to play it again.

Its crazy the travel people are planning for winter golf this year... I have one friend that is going to aussie for 2 months to golf... I have another that is going to africa for 6 weeks to golf and a few others that plan   to venture south for golf holidays this winter...

I’d almost take a cart at that point for some shade cover. My limited memory of Okanagan golf courses is that there aren’t many trees for shade.

Had a great weekend in Salmon Arm.

My take on the courses;

Shuswap National - was in good shape. Not my favourite track.  A lot of quirky holes. Still, had good fun.

Salmon Arm - my favourite in that area. Course was in good shape. Played well, pace was great. Could play there every week.

Talking Rock - Always fun to play. Bunkers were in poor shape, like hitting of concrete. Back nine has some really quirky holes.

Back to lower mainland golf, less distance and less heat this weekend.

Hopefully you were able to see talking rock pre fire

National is ok

Price is right.. I would play salmon arm over national any day of the week

Anyone watching Stick on Apple TV? Owen Wilson golf themed series. Ex-pro helping out a kid, yada yada. Filmed around these here parts. Newlands and Pitt Meadows. I'm not familiar with the courses so don't  recognize any of it.

I’m through all 6 episodes so far. I recognized the clubhouse in one of the ads, and I was like, “wait, this was filmed in BC”. And all the motorhome scenes were shot out in Langley on Telegraph Trail, 232, and 72nd. First event is Fort Langley Golf Course, even they call it a goat track in the show 😅

Acting is pretty bad, but I’ll see it through. I mean it’s golf right?

MC again today. My first round in about 3 weeks. Teed off just before 8am, and finished in 4:45. I've mentioned this before, but the regulars of the past 5 years or so seem to be gone and there has been no consistency in the groups I've seen teeing off each weekend. 4:45 is horrible timing for MC, especially that early in the morning.

They recently came out with a revised max time of 4:25 after some form of analysis, upping it from 4:20.

If I could get regular prime tee times elsewhere, I'd likely jump ship.

We were off 6:45 this morning at Fraserview. Finished in 4:05. Never felt rushed. 4:45 is bad for an early morning time at MC.

After approaching the green on 8, the marshal asked us to let the group on the tee hit up. We were puzzled, because there didn't seem to be much benefit. We obliged rather than get in to a back and forth. It did create a bit of space to the group in front of us who may have been the problem, but we were on them at the 11th tee.
