Playing golf in Vancouver Canada (NO POLITICS!)

Redwoods looks amazing. Missed playing it again this summer. Unfortunately with the forecast it looks like we may be into true fall weather and I know Redwoods is notorious for being pretty soggy as the wet weather rolls in.

I played Ridge on Friday and had a great time. I know it's been talked about before on here, but man, for last week of September to be paying $130 without range balls on a weekday just seems like too much. The conditioning was good, but honestly not even comparable to Morgan Creek. Love the layout, but not sure if it's worth it for me, other than once or twice a year. However, both courses were fully booked Friday and Saturday so can't complain as 1000+ people were willing to pay.

Yeah, I've been beating that drum this year as well.  Love the Ridge but I feel like I might as well enter the pro shop bent over walking backwards with a tub of lube ready to go.  At least they finally allow 3somes instead of 4 only.   $150 on a Saturday with a small bucket of balls, and then you get to the first green and a portion of it is GUR...ridiculous. (earlier this season).

But if golf ever slows down around here, I'll remember the courses that got greedy and avoid them.  But yeah, they are selling out so not going to change anytime soon.

Except for the muni's of Vanc & Burnaby.....I think most courses bumped up their fees and more restrictive booking policies....some more severe than others.

Are things still that bad in the OK?

In the GVRD....Apr & May was nuts trying to get a tee time....except for the muni's here.....by Aug...demand for public course tee times had been reduced.

Did you get out to Sagebrush?

A friend got out in Aug as a 3some for the soft opening fee of $150.

The conditions looked ok.

Wasn't able to get on at sagebrush... the fall up here is still packed solid.. tried to book at talking rock the other day.. the first available tee time is Oct 16

That's too bad.

The $150 soft opening fee with all day golf and food/lunch was a BARGAIN.

I won't be paying the 300 next year.. hopefully they offer up a spring or fall deal

I know a few people that were able to get on.. some good reviews and some not lol

I would still like to see it myself... maybe one day covid will end and everyone will Go back to whatever they were doing before

Unfortunately....I think prices and demand will still be somewhat strong in 2022...not like 2020 or 2021.

I think it will take a few years to get the demand and prices back down...ugh.

I got transferred out to Van City in 1992....even back in the 90's I thought Kelowna was overpriced.

Kamloops has more value...but Kamloops the city is boring....if on vacation....3 days...play a lot of golf ....and move onto the next destination on an OK golf trip.

Good time at Redwoods yesterday morning.

Greens were amazing and course was great as well.  Back left pin on #7 and brutal pin on #9 was a tough scene.  Pace, as always, a little slow despite teeing off early.

So tough to get the ball back there on 7 if the pin is tucked. 7-9 can just be a round killer.

Tobiano is worth the trip. We just carry on to Predator Ridge though, no desire to hang out in Kamloops, unless you’re into mills.

I like a challenge...likely it was the brutal wind...but I didn't enjoy my rd at Tobiano...I don't have any desire to return...but that's just me.

My next OK trip will be a Shuswap one....the 5 main ones from Talking Rock to Salmon Arm....I've yet to play them.

Salmon arm and talking rock are both nice... I played each of them 4 or 5 times this year... I would like to get out to Revelstoke and golden next year.. I haven't played either of those

Talking rock and salmon arm as well as shuswap national usually do a Xmas special for the following year...

This year I picked up passes for all 3.. I can handle paying 65 or 70

From the sounds of it most courses up here are raising rates again for next year

I've never played Golden, but it's suppose to be a hidden gem...but it's in no man's land....basically a stopover on the way to Calgary.

Just me too. I hated Tobiano (the front 9 mostly) the one time I played it. My wife liked it though for scenery.  I hated the forced carry par 3's with drop-off all around for example. The kicker for me was (on hole 6 or 7?)  when I believed the voice guide on the GPS to hit it to right centre.  I did...to then find my ball ended up in a mini-hazard of a small area of fescue.

When we finished, we stopped in the clubhouse for some refreshment as we then were heading to Kelowna. All I could see of the course was the 10th tee. Guy teed off, smashed his driver on the ground, breaking the shaft near the head. Threw the head in the water, broke the shaft into two more pieces then tossed them in the water too. The next guy hits, looks angry and disgusted and I thought he was going to do the same thing. The server was by our table and saw it. She said dryly, " I wonder if he knows that pond is an envirionmentally-protected area?"  Obviously they were probably having even a worse day than me, so that helped!

Anyone play Hyde Mountain? It's got a big sign just outside Sicamous advertising its existence at least.

Lol great story. 10 is a pretty wide open tee shot, but hey I’ve been there too. I love how unique the look and feel of the course is, and the forced carries don’t really bother me, though they are plentiful. To each their own 👍🏼

I worked just outside of Sicamous for a couple summers and played Hyde Mountain a TON.   It's an absolute favorite of mine, but definitely a bit quirky.   The first time you play it some of the strange holes can slap you upside the head, but once you learn the course it's great.

Hole #4 you tee off a cliff to a fairway...must be 300 feet below the tee box? A few holes straight up the mountain, bunch of blind shots etc.  Sort of comparable to The Rise in Vernon maybe?

Not sure what the rates are these days, but you used to be able to play for $30 GolfNow Hot Deal quite often.
