callaway adapter setting -- played incorrectly?

guys - i tried searching for this response and didn't find anything close.

 

so, i got a GP6TX - and the graphics are lined up incorrectly with the setting on the adapter.

 

here's the issue -

 

if you were to use a cally adapter, and NOT line it up with the line on the adapter, ie using the setting (N,S) but a full click or indentation to the left of the lineup setting on the adapter...what does it do?

 

one would assume it would screw it up and no longer make it N,S correct?

What matters is the position of the settings ('N', 'S', '+1', etc..) relative to the head. The reference line/mark on the adapter doesn't really matter, except to ensure that the grip alignment is correct.

Can't tell you what it would actually do - but logic tells me that it would no longer be N-S

wouldn't that be incorrect...b/c wouldn't the flip side of the adapter be upright? the settings aren't changed by the adjustable rings...they're changed by the adapter. so, if you move the rings/adjustment left or right of the alignment line...wouldn't that change the angle of the adapter, thereby changing the setting despite being N/S?

Yes they are changed by the adjustable cogs. Those cogs are what dictate the orientation of the shaft relative to the head. That's why their orientation relative to the head is what matters.

so, you mean to tell me if i flipped the adapter...and kept it at N/S....it's still neutral std?

 

then what's the point of the adapter?

The adapter has the threads and screw hole so you can actually attach the shaft to the head - kind of important ;-)

- and it also keeps the cogs from getting loose when you remove the shaft.

no you're missing my point. i know what an adapter does with regard to holding the d*mn head on...that was self explanatory.

 

the adapter it self for TM, Titleist, etc are all angled so that when you set the cogs and adapter, the club is adjusted accordingly. the callaway adapter isn't a straight adapter...and it is angled. thus the confusion. it appears you might not be picking up what i'm putting down...

Yes, most other OEM's have offset angles but last few times I checked my Callaway adapters, I didn't see any offset.

 

Now if it really is angled, since it's not an angle that every changes, it technically wouldn't change the amount of adjustment, it would only change the ''base" values that were being modified.

 

And then there is the question of what would be the point of designing an adapter with a level of adjustment that is never used?

 

But it should be easy to measure the specs when I get home and get actual verification one way or another.

Ok now you two are confusing me - Stuart, if I spun the head 90 degrees (random guess, not exactly 90) but also spun the cogs (so the indicator on the head points to NS) would it still be neutral even though the NS cogs are sitting in a different spot on the actual adapter?

None of the other adaptors have 2 independant cogs like the callaway ones... the whole point is that you can put the callaway driver into any setting without rotating the grip...

To add a little to what Stuart said.....On a Titleist, Cobra, or TM adapter, the shaft actually sits in the adapter at an angle. When you rotate the shaft, the adapter and this angle changes and alters how the shaft sits in the head.

 

With Callaway adapters, the best in my opinion specifically for this reason, is that the adapter itself has no angle built into it. The shaft sits in it straight.

 

The TWO independent cogs, which only Callaway has, do all the angle changing. You can rotate the shaft and the body of the adapter any way you want. Much Superior design in my mind, especially if you use a reminder grip like me.

 

If I want to change my Cobra LTD loft I have to regrip my club AND the shaft label moves. Irritating.

I checked the adapters in 6 different shafts (3 hybrid, 3 fairway) all the same adapter model though. 4 of them were perfectly straight with no offset. 1 had a barely noticeable offset and another had a clearly obvious one and for that one I can't even tell if it's from the adapter or the shaft itself. That last abnormality however, is almost certainly due to damage and not a design intent.
