2007 Lexus ls460

Thinking about getting a 2007 ls 460 with pretty low miles (48k) for a decent price. Anyone have a late model Lexus or similar? Any big problems? I've had an old accord for ages, so want to take a step up without breaking the bank, but also don't want a ton of maintenance (hence the Lexus instead of German luxury). Any thoughts appreciated.

My grandfather bought that exact one the second it was released and had it for about five years before he passed away. I drove it a few times and thought it was a cool car but regret never trying the self-parking feature.

 

Right around that time I got a 2005 GS 300 with about 20,000 miles on it. I put on another 90,000 in 6-7 years without issue and got rid of it when the transmission started to go. It still worked but I didn't want to pay a couple thousand when I was considering getting a new car anyway. So, in summer 2013 I got a 2014 IS 350 F Sport (I believe I got $12,000 trading in the GS) and haven't put a dime into it other than for tires and routine maintenance.

 

I'm right there with you on Japanese versus German. I'll likely keep my IS another 2-3 years and would probably consider leasing a BMW or Audi, but not buying one.

Thanks. I hope it works out. I’ve been used to spending pretty much nothing on my Honda, so don’t want to be shocked.

 

Anyone else have thoughts on buying a car that old in general?

I purchased my one and only preowned car in 2001. It was a 1998 Lexus LS with about 43,000 miles on it. Replaced the timing belt at about 90,000 miles. Other than that, just oil changes every 3,000 miles. It had just under 200,000 miles when I sold it. Was a great car.

Those are great cars. One item to find out -- have the front control arms been replaced? There are eight of them (four upper, four lower), and doing it right is not a small job. It's not inevitable that every 460 will need this done, but listen / feel closely for any clicking or popping at full lock or under braking. IIRC some of these were replaced under extended warranty as Lexus had problems with some of the bushings, which on these cars necessitates replacing the arm(s).

 

I'm not aware of any other common issues on these cars, however.

Lexus are the best cars on the market in my opinion its all i buy. Currently in 2008 gs and my wife has a 2015 rx. Not a problem with either . Oil changes and brakes is all i have dont to mine and its 10 years old

 

Before rhe gx i had 2000 es300 that i bought in 2001 and drove to 2010 and never major problem with that car . Tires brakes and oil changes
