2018 NJSGA Events

Question for you guys who play a decent amount of NJSGA events. How many people bring their own caddies to these. I was thinking of bringing my brother along to be on the bag, but don't want to be "that guy" if he's the only caddie, I'll just ride if that's the case, but tend to play a little better when I walk.

I have a kid (he's 19 so, not really a kid) i'm great friends with and used to coach - he's been on my bag for just about every tourney i've ever played in. he's helped me immensely - nothing better than having someone else there to help you when your mind and your game start wandering on you during a round.

Bring your brother for sure! What I've seen is that most guys bring caddies - either from a home club or just buddies.

 

I haven't done it because I usually travel pretty far. I have tried to get a caddie from the club hosting and haven't been successful. Figure most club caddies don't want a single bag on a slow round.

 

Also pretty sure riding is not an option, so be prepared to walk. Best of luck!

Suburban is supplying caddies for the Fourball event...$80 which includes tip. After playing the practice round, I requested a caddy, so I don’t have to carry my bag, as they aren’t allowing push carts

Signed up for the Ike qualifier at Deal so I'm forced to do the Mid Am at Hawk Pointe. Meh

The NJSGA Four-Ball championship starts tomorrow at Rumson CC for those who have advanced through one of the two local qualifiers. The low 16 after tomorrow's stroke play will return for match play Wed & Thur. My partner and qualified at Burlington CC. Weather looks good...

Missed making match play by 2 today playing our last 4 holes in 3 over. Couldnt get the ham & eggs thing going. We actually hit it well but mis-clubbed at a couple of inopportune times and also fatted a putt (not kidding...lol). Only good thing is now I dont have to wake up tomorrow and drive to Rumson for a 7 a.m. tee time.

Played another practice round today at hawk Pointe. Hope the greens get quicker or guys are gonna have to think they have to shoot low - course was incredibly get-able.

While unfortunately my game isn't in shape enough with a 2 year old and a 2 month old to play in any events this season, seems like we have a lot of good sticks in Jersey on here. Always looking for some guys to peg it up with.

Looks like we are going to get a ton of rain over the weekend. I'm guessing that the greens aren't going to be all that fast by wednesday.

awesome -- least i know what i'm in for then! lol they were true but slow when i played sunday.

yeah it is a small field right around 80-81 people (27 groups), just gonna go out and see how the chips fall for me.

play smart - go for pars on everything but par 5's...figure 1 or 2 over will get you in.

Played Hawk yesterday. Only got 14 holes in before the rain came. Greens definitely weren’t fast but they were true. Really the only defense that course has is the crazy greens. Definitely lots of 3 putt opportunities if you’re in the wrong spot.

Par or better to qualify for the Mid Am? These fields must be getting tougher. I think mid-upper 70s qualified in every NJSGA or MGA qualifier I’ve played in, but haven’t tried for 2-3 years now.

Par or better to qualify for the Mid Am? These fields must be getting tougher. I think mid-upper 70s qualified in every NJSGA or MGA qualifier Ive played in, but havent tried for 2-3 years now.

The course isn't too hard tbh- u may be right.

Good luck, guys. Keep us posted. I always loved playing those events. Gave me something to focus on and practice for. And such a good prep for tournament golf at the club level. Sadly I never really contended in the 6-7 I played. Best performance was right around 80 in a monsoon at Trump Colts Neck but that was the Ike which was a def level up from NJ.

Strong field on a course that historically gives up a lot of low scores in qualifiers. Mid Am qualifier there a couple years ago was 76 but a lot of guys were under par.

This weather has really put a kink in my planned practice. I coach golf in the spring, so only had about 2 weeks on the calendar for focused practice/play and I'm really not digging this constant rain we've had. I thought April showers brought May flowers. Oh well, its a day of golf without work at what looks like a nice course.

78 made it today at the Trenton qualifier. Only top 16, how many should make it from Hawk Point then? Gotta imagine it’s a bunch, only two qualifiers and whoever makes it in on exemptions. Could 30-40 make it Wednesday?

i'm guessing at least 30. after all, there's a top 16 cut after the first round of the actual tourney -- last year they had over 60 make it to the actual tourney before they made the cut to top 16...

I played in the IKE qualifier yesterday at Deal. The cut was 74 and I missed it by 3 with a 77.
