Correct wedge shafts

Was wondering if all of you map your iron shafts with your sand/gap wedges. Do you keep the same shafts across the board or do you mix and match w wedges

You're going to get a few different responses but I figure that mine is worth adding.

My main set of irons have zz65 shafts, the gap wedge is a CS-Lite stiff, the SW is a Rifle 6.0 and the LW is a Rifle 5.5 Spinner.

I wasn't looking for uniformity. I much prefer what each shaft offers in it's characteristics and feel.

Play what works best for you.

There are a bunch of forums on this topic. There's basically 3 schools of thought on wedge shafts:

1) Play the same shafts in your wedges that are in your irons.

2) Play shafts a bit heavier in your wedges than your irons.

3) Play shafts a bit lighter in your wedges than in your irons.

There's also differences of opinions as to whether your wedge shafts should be the same flex as your irons or a flex softer in your wedges as you're more likely to play half shots that may require a but more feeling.

I play a bit heavier shafts in my wedges (115g) than my irons (105g) as it allows me to flight my wedge shots down a bit easier and allow the club to do more of the work. But it's totally preference. I will say I've had issues in the past with the huge difference in weight from my iron shafts to most of the stock wedge shafts (125g and up).

Agree with what's been said thus far; all about feel for you. As opposed to weight, I've looked at a weaker flex in my scoring clubs. I am different than many and don't use my 54* and 58* wedges for full shots. In fact, they are used most the time for bunker or delicate shots around the green. With that said, a weaker shaft (regular flex for me), allows more feel and "play" when dealing with the feel part of the game. I do play a bit heavier shaft in regular flex in these clubs as opposed to a lighter flex and stiff/firm flex shaft in my other irons.

Softer flexing and a few grams heavier is my choice. I play Modus 105 iron shafts @ 106.5G and Modus 105 Wedge @ 111G.

I play px 6.5 in my gap wedge because I’m more likely to take a full swing with it and px 6.0 in my sand and lob. Seems to work out for me.

the wedge shaft could be the same model and flex as the fitted iron shaft, or slightly heavier (15g)/slightly more flexable, or even a wedge spinner shaft. Theres no right or wrong, only that the shaft fits, feels and performs well. But you'll have to choose, install and experiment to find out whats right for you.

The PW/GW is mostly used for full swings so you may want to stick with your fitted iron shaft and add a slight amount of head weight (ex D2 to D3) to soften the tip.

The SW/LW is mostly used for partial swings so to restore feel around the green try a slighty heavier shaft weight and then soften the tip with more head weight (D5) and/or a slightly longer tip section.
