What should dynamic lie angle be for irons?

Using foresight gc2 with head measurement technology. Measuring dynamic lie angle at impact.

Curious if dynamic lie at impact should be zero degrees flat or will it be a few degrees upright?

Irons are bent 2 degrees flat. Standard shot is draw. Fight a hook.

I was surprised that using impact tape got us to 2 degrees flat but using the technology it measures ~ 3 - 6 degrees upright at impact.

Should our goal be zero degrees perfectly flat at impact or will the dynamic lie always be a little upright?

i dont know Foresight CG2 so i have no idea about what they measure, but when you say "impact tape", are you talking on the sole or the face?

Thank you Howard.

I didn't mean impact tape. I meant lie tape. Sorry for the confusion. Our fitter used lie tape and bent to 2 degrees. I think it was a good start. It feels like we need more like 3 degrees.

Foresight gc2 HMT uses sttickers on the club face and cameras to measure the club head data. One measurement is the dynamic lie angle at impact. Assuming the measurement is correct which I think its safe to assume then our dynamic lie at impact is 3 to 6 degrees upright.

We fight an occasional hook so learning that the club is upright at impact by 3 to 6 degrees I thought that could make the ball go left.

Question is should the dynamic lie if measured correctly be flat 0* at impact? I know at setup it is upright but with shaft bend I thought we were trying to get to 0 degree flat dynamic lie in an ideal situation.

We also swing in to out all the time. Not sure if the in to out swing can make the dynamic lie more upright versus an out to in.

appreciate your insight Howard. Thank you.

Again, i dont know CG2, but if they actually means "lie angle at impact" then we want it to be 0*

Dont use tape on the sole with lie boards to judge this, it cant do it right, but its to long story to explain, so just jump to what works and thats the ball marker method with a vertical line in the ball. if its strait (vertical) lie angle is good, if it points against the toe, go flat and if it points against the heel go up right. I made some face labels to judge how much we need to adjust.

The option with LONG lines is the best

Tell us what you found out when you tried with face labels, if you already went 2 flat, its not much more to get, and then length might be off from what you should have played.

It should be zero at impact, thats the idea of lie angle, its not important at address its important at impact so if your 3deg upright at impact and have your clubs bent flat 2deg then you need to adjust your swing as no fitting can compensate for that. (you'd need 5deg flat) your hands must be high at impact.

Haven't had a chance yet. This is for a junior so I suspect height and arm length is a factor. Playing 1/2 inch under mens average if there is such a thing. If you use ping fitting they say 2deg flat given height and arm length.

Then the swing. Swing mechanics are very close to ideal but the down swing can be a little shallow in to out. I hear this pattern may affect dynamic lie angle differently than someone who is over the top out to in. Have you seen this?

The heads are forged so they can easily go another degree flat.

I will try the face label method though for sure. Thanks.
