Adjustments to hit a push fade farther

Recommended Posts

We have an in to out path and usually hit a draw. Testing the push fade.

We aim left and open the face a little. Still swing in to out. It does go shorter as expected.

Spin is definitely to the right as you would expect opening the face a little.

AoA is 5 degrees no change.

LA and Backswing increase due to opening the face.

Curious of adjustments to hit the push fade further. Carry and roll.

Some I can think of is choose a lower lofted face so when we open it doesn’t go higher and the back spin is less. Maybe.

Perhaps if this becomes a stock shot go with a stiffer than normal shaft? Keep it lower and less back spin maybe. Also promotes a right shot with less opening.

Thoughts?

My longest drives have been push fade. Swing Speed, and Center contact are great ways to hit further

Open the face more and try to aggressively slam it shut at the last possible moment. If it goes left, you did it too soon.

Interesting. I play a slight fade as a standard shot and I very deliberately think about having my hands and club face very passive at impact.

Of course I play a pull fade, setting up at the target and swinging the club a hair left of the target with quiet hands.

First off, if with the fade, you have higher launch angle, more spin and less carry..... then all of that is caused by the increased effective loft you are applying to the ball with your fade setup. Decreasing the loft would fix this situation, but if you then want to play a draw, your back to non-ideal launch conditions. What I tend to do when I want to play a fade and not have it go too high or spin too much is move the ball slightly rearward in my stance (no more than an inch). This should decrease your effective loft a bit possibly giving you what you're looking for. You'll have to experiment with the setup a bit to get your aim-point correct for the new ball position though.

Yes the slight open face (to cause the right spin) causes higher LA and higher spin therefore less carry and roll. I will experiment with moving the ball back. It will start further right when I do that.

The ball you play will probably make the largest difference. Having a low spin driver head. Setting the driver on a more upright lie angle. Playing the lowest loft you can get away with. Setting the face angle more closed.

If you move the ball back then you're probably going to worsen the spin problem. The face will be open more unless you manipulate the face in some way.

I would try playing the ball a bit more forward. See if that closes the face a bit more naturally. May end up with more of a straight fade than a push fade.

a properly hit fade is not going to go much shorter than a normal shot...however, it will go shorter if you mishit the ball, or are hitting a rather significant fade. I typically play for a slight push fade with my driver. All I do is play the ball forward about an inch or 2. With the ball forward with my driver, I tend to hold off the face slightly leading to the push and since my path is slightly left, it cuts....Probably a 10 yard push and a 5 yard cut. Everyone is a little different though. Some people will still close the face and hit a pull cut from there.

If your path is left (out to in) how do you play a push?
