Well he shot 1 under par today it just so happens that he ran into the McIlroy buzzsaw. Could have happened to just about anyone.

He should go back to Butch.

Also, he’s built like a linebacker

Maybe just ditch the driver, entirely, and putt left-handed? Seems like a good dude, and maybe he's maxed out his capabilities (wtf do I know?), but it might be time for at least a partial 'Constanza reversal', yeah?

The guy one of the best Opens in modern history against a future Hall of Famer and his game is junk? It's golf. It's hard. You can't shoot 64 every day.

I don't think you understood what I said (you did read it, right?)

I like Stenson. I love the strong 3w bit. Love the sound of him hitting the ball. I wonder, if he has an issue with the driver, as he hits that 3w so damn well, might he be better off skipping the driver and never having to worry about it ever again (didn't he hit that 3w 330something on 16 today?)? Or, does he need to hit the driver more (I don't know)? Over all, what I'm wondering is, if this is just the absolute max he could possibly ever get out of his potential, or is there more to be gotten were he to do a few things differently? I can't help feeling it's the latter.

The driver off the deck on the tee was one of the weirdest decisions I've ever seen.

So I missed that. First question, why? Second, did he hit the fairway?

At the beginning of the day, I thought nobody was going to catch Stenson. He just looked so good the first three days. Solid ball striking, putting was good. His putter failed him the most today, but ball striking wasn't as sharp as first three days. If his putting was better he would be one of the top 10 guys easily possibly the top 5.

He threw up grass and saw it go right back into his face so he decided to hit driver off the deck which guarantees it fades and its obviously super low as 3 wood wouldnt allow him to go for the par 5 11th in 2. he lost it slightly right and he ended up laying up anyways. It was a weird call but pretty ballsy

So ballsy. I was thinking he might use a tee and be kinda ballsy, but then, when I saw him hit the ball right off the turf with no tee, I was thinking, the balls on this guy!

But you also questioned his putting?

Anyway, he's not getting any younger, he just needs to play his game and he'll win more. I suspect he only hits driver to give others a chance sometimes....

Being a fellow countryman, I have followed him since he won the Challenge Tour, the European satellite tour back in the old millenia. And he has his ways. And his apparent player personality. There's a lot going on inside that brain, and you will never hear the "Win focus" that you hear when Tiger is interviewed. Works a lot with his mental game, has an old Army officer as his mental trainer.

He strives, as many of his fellow countrymen with getting a winning mentality. That's not how things run here. To win. You do a job and you do it good, that's the name of the game but for a very few upper class people, and even they do seldom have the Tiger/Reed mentality. The greatest downhill skier ever, Ingemar Stenmark, who won twice as many world cup events as anyone else has were a typical example. OK, he won and he won a lot. But he was extremly low toned about it. So to become a winner here is harder than elsewhere, and that's deeper than just pointing to the '68 movement. Winners are of course admired, but also considered freaks.

His nationality aside, he does not at all have the ratio (win/top 5) over the years as Noren, our second best has. Mostly I would say due to the short game stability. Stenson hits a lot of good putts during a 72 hole tournament, but he is up and down when Alex is stable. And Alex does have something in his mentality which makes him seem more a winner than Stenson is.

stenmark was low key due to he hated to loose.

Stenson has issues he havent fixed yet and cant apperantly either.

This is just my impression of things but he didn't seem to have his best stuff after the first round so that he managed to stick around the top of the leaderboard for as long as he did was something.

I put a fiver on McIlroy at the end of round 2. You could just see him waiting to catch fire.

He was absolutely unstoppable today, and there was nothing Stenson (or anyone else for that matter) could do about it.
