Stenson was 5th in putting for the week. His big problem is that he gets steep on the ball which hurts him with the driver and around the greens.

Maybe just ditch the driver, entirely, and putt left-handed? Seems like a good dude, and maybe he's maxed out his capabilities (wtf do I know?), but it might be time for at least a partial 'Constanza reversal', yeah?

I like Stenson. I love the strong 3w bit. Love the sound of him hitting the ball. I wonder, if he has an issue with the driver, as he hits that 3w so damn well, might he be better off skipping the driver and never having to worry about it ever again (didn't he hit that 3w 330something on 16 today?)? Or, does he need to hit the driver more (I don't know)? Over all, what I'm wondering is, if this is just the absolute max he could possibly ever get out of his potential, or is there more to be gotten were he to do a few things differently? I can't help feeling it's the latter.

 

But you also questioned his putting?

 

He strikes me as completely lacking in luck in that aspect of the game.

I don't really see an "issue" per se. Like others said, he had a decent 4th round... how can you beat a dude who shoots -8 the final day? You need to be super hot and he wasn't, on that particular day. He certainly was on day #1, but that's not enough to win anymore. You need to be on, 4 days in a row, or be super hot 1 day if you're going to have a so-so round on another.

 

Also, lol @ the people on the thread poking at Rory ditching the KK shaft. While yes his putter was absolutely money, he still crushed a bunch of drives, I believe one rolled all the way out to 370 on day 4. Pro OJ is a legit shaft... and I thought I saw a Pro White in the 3w? Solid.

And a few years before that he was the longest guy I have ever seen on any tour with the driver when he went with it. And he shaped it left and right as he pleased. He changed his swing into using his raw power to be the best ballstriker in the world tho. Not the same speed even tho he is in the top 5 with the long irons even today. But the power is still there. Stenson will never hit those beautiful driver again tho. He compresses his balls like crazy and Ive seen readouts of over 120mph with his 3W on PGA-tour when they meassured it, but his driver is usually around the same or even lower. The average tour player gain 4-7 mph on his drivning speed vs 3-wood. So in fact, Stensons driver is deacelerating quite a bit. Could also be that he doesn't go after it as much. But the logical explenation is that the swing pattern creates that.
