Is it wrong to like a 2 piece ball?

I don't know where I read or heard this comment. But, I thought that it was a good one. Most mid-high handicappers typically end up short of the pin on their approach shots. If you're one of these people, why in the world would you want a ball that spins a lot and stops quickly. Shouldn't you want a ball that rolls out? If you consistently find yourself past the pin, with your ball mark closer to the pin than your ball end up, then you might want to reconsider.

That's me Bill. I have used urethane balls. Although, it is really cool to see a ball bite on the green. Quite often I am short and a ball that checks up, leaves a longer putt compared to one that rolls out.

Every since I became superstitious and stopped purchasing used premium balls I have used mostly 2 piece balls and my scores have not changed at all. Admittedly I'm not the best golfer and I do like the feel of some premium balls but then that superstition gets in the way again. One day I found a Pro V and gave it to my playing partner and he placed it right back in the woods from whence it came on the very next tee. :fie: Previous generation Duo's were nice but got scuffed up pretty easy. Lately have been using D2 feel and they perform pretty well but sometimes seem a bit firm. Didn't like the Cally Supersoft, a bit mushy even compared to the Duo. With a slower swing speed I also get a bit more distance with a 2 piece but distance isn't as importance at placement. Play what YOU like.

Thanks, om18v. You may like the Bridgestone Extrasoft. It sits somewhere between the SuperSoft and Gamersoft on feel and mushyness. They are harder to find in retails stores. But, still available on line. They have a nice yellow color, too. I tried the D2 feel. I was a little disappointed too considering the rave reviews. But, their ok, just a bit firm.

Have you tried the Snell Get Sum against what you've already played and enjoyed for a 2 piece golf ball?

I don't know why manufacturers still produce these 2 piece balls that, clearly, nobody is willing to buy.

Good one! If I'm playing hacker courses I find tons of two piece balls. If I'm playing a higher priced/better course, there are Pro Vs everywhere. A neighbor of mine part times at a "premium" course. This time of year all the buddies are out getting away from wives and girlfriends, drinking beer, having a grand ole time and smacking Pro Vs in the woods. My neighbor only plays Pro V now and hasn't bought a ball in years.

i dont know if its mentioned here, sorry if it has, one the best kept secrets in the two piece world are Wilson Elite 50 balls...

I would agree. I tried them on a lark as a fall/leaf ball and was surprised at the performance. It's no FG Tour around the greens but it's a lot closer than one might expect. I never expected to see check on partial wedges from a $12/doz ball.

The only possible issue I have with them is the aerodynamics in the wind, as a higher trajectory player.

I'm probably going to be going back to a 2-piece ball. Was thinking about my play after the round yesterday. I can stop any rock ball on the green, even spin them back. That's not an issue for me at least. But, I am having some trouble finding the fairway with my driver lately. Playing a more spinny ball I get this long, high, boring trajectory that flies down the center of the fairway about 200 yards, then turns hard right for the last 30 or 40 yards. Didn't suffer that with surylin covered balls. Go figure.

My whole golfing life, I’ve use a two piece ball. When I played a lot was a 6 or so hcp. I still could stop the ball on a hard Greens, not PGA tour Greens but most golf courses we mere mortals play.

Through lots of trial and error I have come to realize my favorite balls are two pieces. Such as the Bridgestone Extra Soft, Wilson 50 Elite and I will be testing out the D2 feel. They are generally priced right, lighter feeling, soft, low-mid compression and straight. There's no bite around the greens. But, I find as a higher capper, the roll out works for me. Anyone else going 2 pieces or must we all like 3/4 pieces? ie: Urethane; Snell's, Cuts, CS, TM TP' 5, Srixon Z stars, Bridgestone Tour B's, Provs, Ksig etc.
No it's not, my favorite go to ball is the maxfli softfli, it just works for me, the nice thing with the ball for me, is when I am going into the greens, I get a nice hop n stop... I haven't tried the speedfli ball yet but I plan on it this summer...

The two piece of today feels much better than the old Topflite and Molitor balls.

Yea, used to play those with wooden woods and early metal woods. Would probably crack the thin face of a modern driver.

Todays Top Flite is much softer. Think I will commit to playing Top Flite XL for a round or two before I move up to the D2's. When I get real good (break 80?) might put the 3 piece Gamers in play.

I’ve just gone through this same train of thought. I played Callaway Chrome Soft last year and enjoyed it. But with the price hike of this years model I decided to re use some stored Forte 3 and 2 piece balls I have had stashed in the cupboard.

I naturally create spin on all my shots and this has been detrimental to my driving so it makes sense to use a ball that will give me a bit less spin and more forgiveness. I took the variety of balls down to the practise range and spent the afternoon putting and chipping with the Forte’s to re adjust to the chipping roll out. Other than that they do everything else I can manage to get the Chrome Soft to do.

I for one can say that I’m guilty of getting caught up in equipment hype including using tour spec balls and overlooking these great 3 and 2 piece offerings. Play the ball that best suits your game.

Is the white a matte version, the blue is a little weird looking

The white is glossy. Blue matte.

This ball was a blast to play around with, Not certain i have had enough time spent with it, to

Evaluate it , noticed simular issues with the wind, but still playing some rounds with it. Comparing it

Against the Taylormade TP X. Still liking this ball,
