Reed and McIlroy, Bad Blood?

Was it just me, or did Rory go out of his way a little bit to call out Reed in his post round interview? A little more than you typically hear in the ultra polite golf world anyhow.

 

Is there bad blood here, perhaps left over from the recent Ryder cup with the WWE style chest thumping and screaming? Or is it just some gamesmanship from Rory?

 

Disclaimer; huge Rory fan and dislike Reed.

Rory enjoys the role of bad boy more than anything else I think. The two probably don't like each other but I doubt there's any deep hatred.

You're reading that wrong. I didnt mean 'hypester' as a 'shyster'. Rory has the skill, he just 'hypes' himself as you can see by his actions on the course after making puts for instance - just like Tiger used to do. Off the field in interviews he talk like he did as referenced in the OP. It's hype. It's a brand.

To me Rory was trying to convince himself that the pressure is on Reed so that he doesn’t get caught up in the chase for the slam. As far as bad blood, I guarantee Rory hates Reed’s guts and my guess is Reed knows it.

LOL. Bad blood. .... I mean what’s the worst that could happen? Someone looks at the other guy funny? The other guys caddie doesn’t hold the flagstick? Seve was a true villain compared to these guys. Hogan was Charles Manson in comparison.

 

If these two threw down they could fight for 2 hours and no one would get hurt. Chubby guy vs. the 140 lbs leprechaun. Gimme a break. This is golf not hockey or MMA.

 

Now granted there might be some psychology going on....Rory is probably embarrassed he didn’t win the Ryder cup match and is acting tough. At the end of the day they both will get a hug and a kiss from the cutie they married. Fly home and drive their Lambo

for a man who just shot 65 with numerous lucky breaks, it was strange how bummed rory looked in the presser afterwards....he may go out and win tomorrow but it didn't look like he wanted patrick to be in the final group with him. i don't think these 2 "hate" each other but maybe rory knows patrick has a one up on him and that will be in the back of both their minds.

Maybe it's just another case of Rory being more candid than most, but I was pretty surprised when Rory said he is going to "show Patrick Reed what I can do, all the pressure is on him" or something very similar. He didn't say it with a nasty tone or anything, but it's pretty rare to hear these guys give anything more than a super vanilla answer, such as " I'm just gonna play my game and worry about myself". They usually try to make it about the course, rather than the other player.

So they should be unhappy they won? He was kicked off the UGA team and then his own teammates asked Harris English to beat him. Says a lot about the guy.

 

Yes people can change but nothing about him gives off the impression he has except that he now has enough $ that he doesn’t need to steal from his teammates. He may be a great family guy but that doesn’t change how he treats others.

This is just another in a long line of weird Rory-isms that just seem to not match the reality around him. To say that all the pressure is on Reed is to somehow ignore the fact that he himself was marketed as the heir apparent to the vacant golf throne only to somewhat disappear into a mire of Nike contract -> runaway husband -> zika virus -> I love golf -> I hate golf and I don't care about growing the game -> Fedex Cup -> forgot how to putt -> rib injury -> heart infection -> remembered how to putt -> I love golf again -> Tensei Orange -> Grand Slam :D

 

I mean the fact that we know all that s*** about him but when it comes to Reed, we've got what...."Top 5 in the world" -> maybe a cheater -> choker necklace?

 

From a public and media perception standpoint, all the pressure is on Rory to close this out and prove he is "back". Sure Reed has as much pressure as anyone has going in to the final day leading, but I think that pressure begins and ends on the golf course, Rory's pressure does not.
