Anybody able to comment on the practice range and instruction at Heritge Point?

I work there I can answer pretty much anything

Played priddis yesterday, new greens coming in pretty well on hawk, still a little sandy though, played quite soft for new greens

Hey guys, was going to put this in the deal or no deal forum but figured it would reach the right audience here - if anyone is looking for golf shoes the Nike outlet store at South Edmonton Common has a bunch of LC3's in various sizes and colours for 25% off $49/39 depending on the colour. When I was there yesterday they had at least one pair in most sizes from 7-12, not sure if it has been picked over more yet or not!

Side note, hopefully if the weather holds tomorrow and I'll have a hit down at Millwoods in the afternoon :)

Not bad, greens rolled true, speed is subjective but I will say they were probably slightly faster than average....played 2 Sunday's ago....they do have a big event there so it will be great I assume....

Played Black Bull today for the first time it's near Pigeon Lake, guys wanted to play the whites ( 6,521) sure didn't like # 5 and #9. Greens/Fairways were in good shape, cart paths were a mud puddle disaster, a few tight fairways, not sure if I will be going back in the near future.

Hardest course in Alberta. I've played with Pros who can't break 80 there....

5 is one of the best holes on the course, but 9 is weird to hit 5 iron 5 iron to that small of a green....

Further to my first post .... I got off to a good start and par'd the first 3 holes, my bad, it was # 4 that had a hidden but deep waste bunker on the left that was full of water, that cost me a double. I agree, No 5 was a well laid out hole, hit a solid T-shot to the 150 and a 9i in, missed my Birdie putt walked away with a kick in par. As well, I didn't see the small creek below the green on #18, was fortunate to stay dry and chip close, made par to finish with an 84. Just found there were tooooo many hidden challenges, would definitely change the strategy next time around. I was lucky and stayed out of the bunkers, there is a lot of water that comes into play. The Whites at 6521 were challenging enough, I could see scratch players struggling from the tips at 7300 yds. As mentioned, not sure if I want to go back in the near future, would rather drive to Rocky Mtn House, really enjoy that track.

Played Millwoods on Friday, it was in great shape apart from a few wet patches from all the thunderstorms lately...25* and no wind was super nice, the no wind part definitely helped get some confidence back in the swing!

Quick question - has anyone played Devon or the Nursery this year? Got my parents coming over from Aus for a month and want to take my dad out to a few courses a little bit out of the city that are reasonably priced and he wont shoot a million on (a-la, Wolf Creek/Cougar Creek/Redtail) - would these fit the bill or should I be looking at some others around?

Cheers!

Way too many hidden hazards on that course. While it is tough from the back, I'd say the gimmicky hidden hazard factor certainly is part of it. It's not nearly as bad the 3rd or 4th time through as one uses much better strategy to get it around.

Haha I kind of had Whitetail in the "shoot a million" pile on account of the 97 I shot there when I actually could golf, nice course though :)

Sirocco is perfect right now. Much better than it was earlier in the year.

All the rain we've had in the last few weeks have really helped out the courses here. I yet to get out to Sirocco this year, but I think I'll try to get out there this weekend.

Played there this morning. They got something weird going on with their greens. A bunch a black dirt patches coming up. Not sure if it's a worm problem under the greens but they were ugly. I'd recommend Darcy right now. Played there last week and it's in great shape compared to Sirocco.

Who would you guys use to reshaft in Calgary?

Lyle at simply golf

Just saw lyle today, bent my scotty to spec (I may or may not of bent it...) and checked my 54* I was in and out in 5 minutes. He also bent back and re shafted my buddies scotty, he said I could pick it up tomorrow (he definitely bent his)

Lyle is great. I started messing around with doing club work myself, but don't want to invest money into lie/loft machines so I still go to him.

Looking to get a putter fitting done. Edmonton is my preferred option but I could make Calgary work. Any recommendations? Not sure who to go with and I want someone who does quality work.

thanks

Bloom, I'd go see Ted at Ted & Dave's in Calgary. He puts you on a high definition camera and fits you to lie loft and length, as well as stroke type. If you want to stay in Edmonton, go see TJ at Deboer's....

Haven't been for a while, but I don't think DeBoers has any dynamic measurement system like a Sam lab or anything. Just visual I believe.

  • 2 weeks later...

Just played the Magrath golf club today. A little hidden gem about 25 mins south of lethbridge. Course was in amazing condition! Quite a few trick dog legs with some creeks running through and some trees to deal with but one of the better courses around lethbridge for sure.

Worth checking out if you are in the area

Lynx Ridge is in really good shape, played it on Sunday. Horseshit layout, but conditions are superb. US Open thick rough like everywhere in the Calgary area.
