Not acceptable to me

So on March 30th I ordered Callaway Apex MBs 5-PW directly from the Callaway site. Site quoted "Available 1-2 weeks" so I figured maybe 3 weeks to a month I might have them. 5 and 6 irons arrived late last week so I sent am email asking about the rest to see if they had an information for me.

This is what I got today.

Hello,

Thank you for your email. I apologize for the delay on the remaining four irons. Here is the eta on them...

7 and 9 iron 5/31

PW and 8 iron 6/15

If I can assist you further, please let me know.

Thank you,

Esther

I'll be cancelling this order Monday and sending the 5 and 6 iron back. Not waiting that long. My current irons work just fine. Very disappointed Callaway.

Yeah that’s painful. I got fitted for g700’s on 4/3 and they came in on 4/12 and I’m in OH which is at least 3 days transit time.

This is bad, but callaway has great customer service and my guess is they’ll find a way to make it right.

That said, when are OEMs going to figure out that in todag’s E-commerce world, their shipping times are totally unacceptable. I find 2 weeks to be about the fastest you get clubs. 3 to 4 is standard, and cases like this aren’t out of the norm. Amazon can have basically anything to my door in 48 hours. I know there are custom and stock issues in golf that don’t exist in other industries, but anything more than a week to ship anything other than truly exotic shafts, special grinds, things like that is ridiculous. And those things should be 2 weeks only.

Like you I got sick of delays, wrong specs, incomplete shaft/weight options... So I found a guy who has component accounts with most of the major players, including Mizuno... Apparently it's easier to get nominated to be the Pope than to get a Mizzy component acct. but he's got one. He custom builds everything to my specs and the price is always equal or better than msrp with customshaft and swingweight options you can't get from the mfr. I had him build me some MP-18's with 120TX shafts which aren't available from Mizuno.

I have a friend who is a top tier builder locally but I order all the stuff he can't get from this guy... Let me know if you want his info. I have no dog in the fight, the dude just does solid work and I have no problem vouching for him.

Sad to hear that. I have heard that alot with TM but this is the first time I can recall hearing that Cally is doing this.

I just don't understand why they would send you two clubs, then give you two additional shipping dates with only shipping two clubs at a time! Makes no sense to me at all. If you order a SET, then ship a SET. What the hell good does it do to get two clubs at a time! Jeez!

My experience with Callaway customer service has always been great. Hopefully than can fix this issue with the MB delivery time frame. I wonder if it is because MB's make up such a small percentage of business, that someone has yet to catch/rectify the problem?

Either way, they need to give a more accurate time estimate.

Ordered i200s direct from Ping rep and got them in 8 days. Sucks that they would send your order in 2 club increments.

Mizuno quoted me 7-10 days. I ordered them on a Monday and had them in hand Friday! I'm 3 states away, so that helps a little.

I had lie changes, length changes, 6 irons and 3 wedges, and soft stepped shafts. Plenty of work to do on them and they still got them to me that fast.

I've heard stories of P790 and Apex MB being delivered 30-45 days from date of purchase.

Kinda crummy.

I wonder what the hold up is....

I've been a ping and Cleveland (back when TA3 was the rage and David toms was still a badass) I hear about poor experiences (and good ones), and I ponder the tmfollowing two thoughts. I don't have many, so when I run for president make sure these end up in a commercial or something.

1: would I play lesser performing irons because of a company's reputation of customer experience (I hate satisfaction and I think it's a bad name within American society)?

2: with the golf equipment game getting smaller (retracting a touch), how can someone willing to drop a K on a luxury item be allowed to have a poor experience doing so?

I've only had one experience in which an OEM had to deal with me. And Ping was incredible. And I felt embarrassed to accept what they offered me to deal with me.

It must be a supply chain issue. All of these guys know that they are competing for a finite amount of us, willing to drop some greenery on pieces of steel that would otherwise be used for something else. But, it just sucks to hear this.

Sorry to the OP, bad experience. I wouldn't turn away from Cally though. Good stuff, need to get this sorted out.

AND RELEASE THE RAW MBS!!!!

They shipped a partial iron set and quoted two different dates for the remaining irons? Who does that? Just mind boggling that a major OEM or anyone for that matter would think, hey we'll send this customer their 5 and 6 iron and they can wait for the rest. No, that won't go over like a fart in church. A phone call was meritted in this situation explaining that they couldn't meet your orignal delivery date.

I ordered a driver from Cobra once. There ws going to be a delay and they actually called me and to make sure I was okay with it.

I hate to say it, but I had the exact same issue.. I ordered an Epic roughly a year ago. Nothing special, stock shaft, etc. The site said in stock, so I paid extra to have it express shipped. I didn’t receive the club for nearly a month if I recall. I can’t remember exact wait time now, but when I placed the order, I was under the impression it would be shipped next business day. I wasn’t happy and they didn’t do anything about it, because I called and complained ( WHICH I NEVER DO )...

I understand where you are coming from, but you aren't the only person the company is building a set of clubs for. Let's say best case scenario Callaway has 10 builders, and it takes an average of say 75 minutes to build a set (weigh the heads, grab the shafts, swingweight, cut, glue, grip), at best, they are producing 80 sets a day. This is being MEGA generous...having built a few sets from scratch myself it usually takes at least 90 minutes to build a set properly. I'm not talking some garage hack and glue where they just grab any head and any shaft and slap it together. Custom work from the OEMs goes through a lot of quality control checks and building check points usually. Now they have to do this for every order in North America or Europe (as they usually have only one build location per continent)...maybe two in North America because Canada and the USA are so large.

There are definitely more than 80 sets of Callaway clubs being ordered per day, or in need of repair, or being need to be made stock to get to places like Golf Galaxy or PGASS. It's not as simple as driving a couple of miles to your buddies place who happens to work on clubs to get them done and he can turn them around next day because he has nothing else to do. I work at a high-end fitting and build shop and the amount of quality checks done before they go out is insane, we are so busy right now we have 3 builders working full time, one of which works 10am-midnight almost daily, and we still can't keep up.

Just a little look from the other side of the "Amazon" world. It's not always as simple as pulling a box off of a shelf and slapping a shipping label on it. Now having said that, end of May/early June delivery is a bit ridiculous, they need to be better at forecasting product demand.
