I don’t think people can understand how true this is if they’ve never played at a high level. It’s just golf. And the only reason you still play golf is for the last three holes of a tournament when you’re one behind/tied/one ahead and trying to win. Can’t replicate or describe it if you’ve never felt it.

But it’s addictive.

Around both tours, there is a saying/belief that…

you get in position for rounds 1 to 3

but the tournament really begins on the back nine.

When nervous system pulses and everyone starts gripping tighter while the adrenaline pumps. Shots distance changes and accuracy is different.

Add more intensity and pressure for majors and Solheim/Ryder cups. This is where a pro is markedly different than any amateur or plus hcp.

Major problem, don’t assume.

Never stated which courses, what year setup and which majors.

Only said area course didn’t say which states.

not all pros are created equal ie david lipsky and brian cambell hooked tee shots today brian even made a double off of his and still managed to win

Again, let's compare relative population sizes of men vs women who are interested in pursuing chess at that high of a level.  One pool is going to be immensely bigger than another.

If you want to open the door to a discussion of men's inherent cognitive abilities versus women's are the reason why they dominate high-level chess competition...it'll make discussing gender differences in performance at the highest levels of golf, seem tame.  Have at it.

I'm trying to come up with a category called "Strokes Gained Pressure." 🙂

Foreplay announced they are going to host this match in the future. Start at the normal LPGA length tees and then move them back after the scratch guys get dusted and use the tee excuse.

hopefully at some point they find an actual "traveling scratch" or "tournament scratch".

There are many psuedo-0 handicaps who just play the same home country club course over and over. There are some courses out there that are simply easy, with no danger or trouble to be found on the course.

Make this guy travel and he's not actually "scratch" anymore. He's more like a 5 on a random course that is relatively difficult.

LPGA players are used to playing different setups every week. They will always wax this 5 (supposedly 0) handicap.

Put a good D2 or D1 male out there who is used to playing different courses and is actually capable of shooting under par on a new venue, and it may be a close match.

But a good D1 male is going to generally be +1 to +3. Or SIGNIFICANTLY lower for the top guys.

yeah I’m just saying what I think it would actually take to win.

im sure there someone in D2 or D1 with a zero. Even if it’s not accurate …

Or it could be someone equivalent who is not in college. But I don’t know how to identify them.

someone who consistently shoots close to par in legit tournaments?

IMHO, it’s not a matter of difficulty, it’s a matter of familiarity.  I play better on my course versus easier courses away simply because I know my course like the back of my hand.  I know yardages from everywhere, I know the green sizes and slopes, pin positions, bunkers that are easy and that are trouble, and, especially, where NOT to hit the ball.  Playing a random course with no knowledge of those things puts me at a disadvantage right off the bat.  IMO, lack of course knowledge can easily be 3-5 strokes during a round, even if you play just as good as you would at home.  I find that my index travels fine to courses that I’m familiar with or have an excellent caddie leading me around, and it doesn’t when I just show up to a new place and tee it up.

OK perhaps we don't compare Thomas Bjorn with Nelly Korda

... how about Pauline Roussin-Bouchard

(currently #64 on the LPGA's Race to CME Globe season standings/rankings

... when she isn't participating in martial arts, boxer and ultra-marathon runner

... albeit not sure why she seems to be cradling a box of fried empanada, in this victory photo after completing a road race, on her birthday last week i.e. 5 July 2025, prior to this week's Evian Championships major! timestamp 2:28 in the video linked below)

I can think that maybe Pauline runs so that she feels happy to eat whatever she likes.
